Yeah, he found his "own" house over there, and here, and right there, and that one down the streets. His house is everywhere, it seems.

Do you have any credible evidence he went to burned out houses other than his own?  Or he went to houses without consent/approval/request of his neighbors?

Can LE do illegal things?  Of course. Did the video you linked show any illegal actions by a retired COP in a totally destroyed neighborhood?  Not from what I saw.

A distinction without a difference...Some dumbasses wonder why people are reluctant to follow "mandatory" evacuation orders. I guess when LE figures all your shit is abandoned for salvage due to natural disaster then it's OK.

These fires really didn't leave any functional abandoned property in the destroyed neighborhoods.  Would you rather any functional firearms be taken by looters?

My friend had seven of his long guns out of his safe on Sunday since he was going to the range early Monday morning. Nothing is functional.

His safe warped and had to be cut apart (I thought it melted) - nothing appears to be salvageable.

Yes, the looting is rampant, I'll bet. However, after acquire the firearms, what would they do with them? How would they return them?

I only read the OP, but I feel entitled to comment on this because I had to (try to) drive from Vacaville to Santa Rosa today. About halfway through I came to road closures due to active fires and had to reroute via Petaluma.

Basically 2/3 of the rural areas I drove past in Napa Valley today are completely destroyed. It still smelled like fire. Grape vineyards, homes, businesses, everything. There were track hoes ripping out burnt row after row of formerly-productive grape vines. I passed blackened piles of ash in the shape of former homes, next to the burnt, melted husks of what used to be automobiles.

Every third vehicle I passed was either a cop car, fire truck, or utility truck. About every ten minutes I would pass a duece-and-a-half carrying about ten National Guardsmen with rifles in the bed. There has been rampant looting in the area since the fires started; remember that this is only 45 minutes from Oakland and there's no shortage of morally corrupt opportunists.

I'm in no way surprised or even outraged that Sonoma County is checking the charred ruins for weapons. This is one of the cases where it honestly is better if they find them than if the "other guys" do.

I guess just tag them with the address where they were recovered? In most cases I'd figure they'll just be replaced by insurance at any rate...

No no no, according to some IG idiot who goes by @rrawreport, the fires were set intentionally by the govt. via a weapons grade laser to drive all the white people out of CA and leave the blacks and Mexicans to fend for themselves....
These conspiracy theorists crack me up.
