It's not just a stupid business decision. ESG investment activism puts very large sums on the line. Blackrock money. Large pension fund money. You get the drift. However much the boycott hurts them, that kind of behind the scenes pressure might very well have threatened even greater financial harm.

312 is a product of Goose Island, which has been a Chicago staple since 1988.  Three miles from Goose Island to BoysTown (the lespians made them change it to Northalstead  in 2021 because Boystown wasn't gay enough).   Which means they should be severely punished. lol.

A slew of Chicago gay bars have stopped selling Anheuser Busch InBev products after the beer giant distanced itself from transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney's Bud Light marketing campaign amid anti-trans backlash.

2Bears Tavern Group, which owns four gay bars from Uptown to Rogers Park, was the first to drop Anheuser-Busch InBev, posting on Instagram Thursday that its abandonment of Mulvaney amid controversy "shows how little Anheuser-Busch cares about the LGBTQIA+ community, and in particular transgender people, who have been under unrelenting attack in this country."

Sidetrack, a 41-year-old gay bar founded by LGBTQ rights pioneers Art Johnston and Jose Pep  Pe a, later made the same announcement.

https://lede-admin.blockclubchicago.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2023/05/Blank-1980-x-1020-copy.png?resize=1024,528

"We must also hold brands accountable if they take active steps against LGBTQ+ equality, visibility and safety," Sidetrack posted.

The gay bars will no longer sell all Anheuser-Busch products, including Bud Light, Busch Light and Goose Island 312.

The controversy began after Anheuser-Busch partnered with Mulvaney for a sponsored post and launched a line of Pride-themed cans with various pronouns.

Many took to social media to express transphobic outrage over the Mulvaney partnership, including an Instagram clip of country musician Kid Rock shooting four cases of Bud Light with a rifle and customers vowing they would stop drinking Bud Light. Others expressed support for Mulvaney and the campaign.

But Anheuser-Busch CEO Michel Doukeris addressed the controversy during an earnings call with investors Thursday and distanced the brand from Mulvaney, according to Yahoo Finance.

"We need to clarify the facts that this was one can, one influencer, one post and not a campaign," Doukeris said.

The CEO also posted a statement in April saying the brand "never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people."

The team behind 2Bears Tavern Group accused the company of erasing "transgender people in favor of anti-trans vitriol." The bar group includes 2Bears Tavern Uptown, Jackhammer, Meetinghouse Tavern and the SoFo Tap.

Sidetrack said the CEO's statement "wrongfully validates the position that it is acceptable to acquiesce to the demands of those who do not support the trans community."

That said, I REALLY hope it hurts them and other companies get the message. I’m doing my part.

Bud Light sales dropped for a third week in April following backlash over a partnership between the beer brand and a transgender influencer, according to industry monitors.

Figures from trade newsletter Beer Business Daily, cited by Barron's, show sales of the beer outside of hospitality premises fell 26 percent in the week ending April 22, compared with the same time a year ago.

This follows reports last week that Bud Light had seen a 17 percent decline in sales revenue since the controversy began, with beer sales volume contracting 11 percent in the week ending April 8 and 21 percent in the week ending April 15.

Beer Business Daily said Sunday the latest results revealed a "shocking deterioration" in Bud Light's market share, adding: "We've never seen such a dramatic shift in national share in such a short period of time."

Looks like they're getting a good swift kick in the pants for being stupid.

https://www.stltoday.com/business/local/bud-light-sales-continue-to-plummet-after-transgender-marketing-controversy/article_cb4df8c2-e83f-11ed-b255-f3f68e1f98f4.html
ST. LOUIS — Sales of Bud Light have been plunging since the company enlisted the help of transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney in a marketing campaign a month ago.

In the week that ended April 22, the brand’s in-store sales plummeted more than 26%, according to figures reported by Bump Williams Consulting, a Connecticut-based firm that specializes in the alcoholic beverage industry.

And the decline is only accelerating. The week before, sales dropped by 21%. The week before that, it was 11%.

Bud Light is still the bestselling beer in America by far, said Bump Williams, the founder, president and CEO of the agency that bears his name. In 2022, Anheuser-Busch InBev sold more than $4.8 billion worth of it in stores, he said, far outpacing Modelo Especial ($3.75 billion) and Michelob Ultra ($3.3 billion).

But if the company can’t stop the decline in sales, especially as the peak beer-drinking summer season approaches, “then Bud Light is in serious trouble this year. And I think it runs the risk of losing that No. 1 position at the end of calendar year 2023 to Modelo Especial,” Williams said.

And they tried to scape goat someone else for it:

https://www.westernjournal.com/report-agency-behind-mulvaney-bud-light-can-just-got-devastating-news/

As it tries to distance itself from the uproar over Bud Light’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, Anheuser-Busch is now saying it has cut ties with the outside marketing agency it has blamed for the fiasco.

According to the New York Post, Anheuser-Busch sent a letter to distributors telling them it had deep-sixed the agency that put Mulvaney’s image on a Bud Light can and sent it to him for a social media promotion.

And you’re probably right.  But I think BL probably has their own division, within AB.  That means their own marketing, production, delivery, and sales force. And there are probably senior executive vice-president types in charge of everyone of those aspects.  And ancillary stuff like secretaries and other office staff.  I foresee layoffs up and down that whole product line.  And when the get rid of the senior executives in that product line, who are you gonna replace them with?  Hey, Joe is an up and coming guy, let’s put him in charge of marketing, he can turn this around!  Joe will say, hey, I’d love to, but I’ve got a great opportunity with the Olde English group working on improving sales in Saudi Arabia.  Lot of opportunities there over what you’re offering.  Best of luck!
