What a fun event! After a great drive home I'm ready to play meme and tell. The obstacles at Classic are apparently scary, something about people's soul's being held down by gravity. Click To View Spoiler Well, anyway, while my body is held down by gravity, my soul demands that I make every attempt to escape. So I started trying to plan my escape attempts around 1pm on Thursday. It wasn't going great, but not terrible. I knew I was good for defeating gravity on two obstacles. There was a third obstacle I had thought I could defeat. Click To View Spoiler Not only did I learn I would not defeat it, I had an oopsie trying to get down. I was found with a dislocated shoulder and a broken rib, among other less serious boo boos. Thanks to Dale for providing casevac service. Click To View Spoiler Without putting too fine a point on it, the mix of adrenaline and drugs had me feeling all sort of ways and having terrible dreams and senses of dread while I was going in and out of consciousness and the put my shoulder back where it goes. This was a complete disaster, and I realized there was only one way I could redeem myself. I decided to ask if I could still do my run as scheduled anyway. I was pleasantly surprised by the response I got. Click To View Spoiler I didn't have the presence of mind to make sure my run was getting videoed. I'd asked someone to do it but they probably didn't realize I was running. I could not physically get my body into a position under the bar where I could move it. If I had managed to get into a position that would have worked mechanically, I probably would have had my broken rib supporting most of my bodyweight, so maybe for the best. I swear that tire felt a lot lighter when I had both hands and none of my ribs were broken. No one wanted to come watch me shoot. I guess they didn't figure they would miss much. I'm not sure the math works out that way, maybe for some people but I doubt it. Uninjured and knowing ahead of time the first 3 obstacles are just not gonna happen, I'm probably good for a time in the low 40s, no ban, 15 minutes total penalities, mid 50s at night (slower run, more make up shots, 10 more minutes for skipping the 300 and 400). With a shoulder that stays in its socket I would still be a high 30s/40ish runner on a clean run. No matter how I crunch the numbers in my head, skipping obstacles is only going to make the event less fun, or in my case less likely to result in a casevac. The real effect of the ban is probably keeping away people whose souls are held down by gravity. I guess it also keeps away people who can't chug or shoot. |
