Bump, don't forget to order swag. I know more of you want patches and shirts than have ordered... less than 2 weeks to get your order in which means just over a month until the event...which is also terrifying.

Hopefully you are more prepared this year than me ??...if not you definitely deserve your penalties

Sure aren't! My first post op appointment is in 2 days. I think they'll remove my sutures and put me in a boot with heel wedges...that I'll be in for 6-8 weeks. . Trying to scheme how to keep the boot dry, my toes warm, as well as get through my run without "overdoing" it...

Alright, work schedule is coming into focus. I hit the signup link for a standby spot.

With night runs, I’m assuming there is a good chance of getting a standby run with the amount of dark hours we have?

There are actually quite a few night runners signed up. I wouldn't sweat it though, as we typically drop below 50 runners by the time the event happens, and we have no shortage of darkness.

Yeah, I definitely prefer the ice and snow to the mud.  Fortunately, my job has made me buy a bunch of stuff to make me much more comfortable in colder temps, lol.

Are rifle suppressors required for night runs?

As far as I know no. Now running a suppressor is just civil and the polite thing to do.

It gets dark there at about 5, night runs are usually wrapped up fairly early here. Compared to West were I am up until 1 in the morning running folks.

True, I just really hate sleeping cold. I have a zero degree bag but it looks like that might not be enough.

Wait until a week before the event to get an idea for temps... its possible that the run site can be about 10 degrees cooler at night than St. Maries forecast too. Temps/weather are HIGHLY variable

I use a 30 year old 5 degree bag for most winter camping and it's usually more than enough. If it's really cold I sleep in fleece pants/shirt, etc. Doubling up on sleeping pads helps too - a foam pad plus a thermarest, etc.

People often complain about cold feet at night, even with a decent bag. A pair of down slippers/booties can really make a difference keeping your feet warm in your bag at night. You can spend a lot on them, but some cheapies like these from Amazon would probably be worth it:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JNPRQD4?tag=arfcom00-20

I also keep a dedicated pair of dry socks that I wear only for sleeping. I sleep with my damp socks that I wear during the day loosely tossed somewhere in my sleeping bag, and they're usually dry by the morning.

Another helpful trick is to fill a 32 oz Nalgene bottle with boiling water and put it in the bottom of your sleeping bag at bedtime. Keeps your feet warm, and then you'll have unfrozen water to drink first thing in the morning. Do not try this with a Gatorade bottle or a knock off Nalgene...

I have one of the thin Sea2Summit reactor liners which is great to knock the chill off a cold bag and holds air a little closer, but tossing a Nalgene full of hot water into the bag works wonders too.

All my sleeping bags have been extra tall women’s. Ultra woke outfitters don’t dare charge more even though materials are extra. And they usually have zippers on the right which matches the ECWS bivvy.

Extra benefit of that is you can go colder than the rating on the bag.

For me tho I sleep cold in general, I usually took my 0 deg bag on tips that the low was around 30 and even with a liner, insulated high r-value sleeping pad, beanie, fresh wool baselayers & fresh socks, boiled water in a Nalgene, hand warmers still cold af. My desert bones just hate the cold (also for reference, I sleep in phx under thick blankets even in summer and in winter I use a heating pad to sleep w- I'd use a heated blanket but binny talls refuses lmao). I'll forever be a baby

The airbnb we found seems nice lol

As of today I can start putting weight on my foot! As long as it doesn't cause pain. Need to figure out something to put between my bandage wrap and my walking boot. Wrap is sticking to the boot and tugging at my sutures due to the cushion of the boot. I'll for sure still be in the boot by the event, but I'm hoping I'll be walking without a crutch/walker/cane by then.

Seeing the carnage for the first time 15 days after surgery.

You might want to bring a shovel. There will probably be some ice and snow to dig through before you find some dirt to rub on that.

We got maybe an inch of the 1-3 we were supposed to get overnight. Possibility of a little more this morning and more Tuesday/Wednesday. Friday's predicted low is only -19 now instead of -23, but the high is currently shown as -7 instead of 0.

It went to my spam folder as well.

I was considering rolling into camp at 3AM Friday morning (I'm scheduled to arrive in Spokane just before midnight on Thursday), but I think I may just get a hotel in Coeur d'Alene and head the rest of the way later Friday morning.

I spent the day testing out my AR and I think I have it sorted out enough to use, so we'll see how that goes.  My backup was to zero my TA-33 to my FAL and use that, but I discovered that the Bobro TA-33 mount will not work with the picatinny receiver rail I have on my FAL due to the way the Bobro attaches to the rail and the fact that the rail has the middle of it milled out to reduce weight, causing the TA-33 to walk forward on the rail with each shot.  Regarding the AR, it seems to work fine now as long as I avoid mags that lack an anti-tilt follower.  I'm still getting frequent stoppages on those mags (aluminum mags with a green follower and an Okay Industries 20-rounder).

All options are imperfect and I have to fly to work in Alaska on Thursday and be gone for a month and come straight to CW from working up there, so it is what it is.  What I pick this week is what I'm locked into.  I am not a fan of borrowing; the majority of the time that ends up being worse for me.  I only have a small number of firearms and only two that are suited to any extent for the rifle courses of fire at CW.  FAL with irons or AR with TA33 that has been having issues for most of the time I've had it (but that has had some recent adjustments made and seems to be fine with the mags I'd use after putting a few hundred rounds through it) are the two options other than borrowing some random gun.

You can borrow my rifle if you want. I've ran it at every cola wars approaching 15 times now. Drops are glued to the stock and in the scope rings. It's suppressed and has a NF 1x8 atacr. It will be available if you need it.
