So the best thing about being 21 is getting a concealed.
I want a PPS the Mr says shield. Which do you think would be better? Keep in mind I am 5'8 and 122 ibs so anything you recommend to conceal should be on the smaller side. |
|
Hard to say what would be "better" for you.
But my Wife is 5ft 3in 115 lbs and a Shield 9mm just disappears on her. She also carries a G19 and a SIG 1911 Carry Scorpion |

Best bet is to find a place that rents out what options you're looking for, and find something you shoot well, and enjoy shooting then work around concealing that. |

I'm with Smiley and SD, the shield would be a fine selection.

How do you intend to carry this gun?
Purse? If so, Glock 26 or Glock 19 depending on purse size. On your body? Whatever the biggest one you can tolerate is. Shield (without thumb safety), Glock 43, Walther PPS are all good choices. Ruger LCP if something even smaller is required. |
|
Have not owned or ever fired a shield but from what I have heard the LC9S trigger is better. Again, just what I have heard and knowing how smooth my lc9s trigger is.
|
|
Go to the next hometown forum shoot. You can try the g43 and PPS I have. Plus smiley is trying to steal my C5L.
I vote g43. |

ETA- I went shooting yesterday and shot my Shield (I do have the Apex kit- not the whole trigger) better than my 43, but I still like my 43. Both have Trijicon HD's. I don't know... maybe it's because I use a Glock 17 at work and have a few others, but I would sell the Shield before the 43. |

If that's the case, then you should really take the title as official planner. Both the ones you set up went off great, I mean besides you getting shot You keep inviting me so I'll take you up on going to TCGC There is also smaller pistol range I might take her that's in Delta Park. They have some rental guns there, so that might be good for her to shop around. Place is fucking crazy expensive though |

Do NOT carry a striker-fired pistol that doesn't have an external safety in a purse - even in a holster, unless the holster is integrated into the purse. And I know you have more than one purse, OP.
That makes all of the Glocks, as well as the PPS unacceptable. The Shield is GTG, as is the LC9 or LC9s. The LC9s Pro version does not have an external safety (I don't count trigger safeties as 'external') so that disqualifies it for purse carry, IMHO. Keep in mind that the Rugers have a magazine disconnect 'feature'. It can be disabled, but of course that voids the warranty, and sets you up for a bad day in court, when the D/A asks: "Mrs. Smiley, why did you disable a safety function on your murder machine?" I gave my LC380 to my Mom, and I don't worry about the mag disconnect, since she will never be in a situation where it will affect the outcome of a self-defense encounter. YMMV |
|
I have both the Shield and 43 and I prefer the 43. Both are good choices. The PPS is also fine but doesn't feel quite as good either.

There are so many good choices, so few of them are on the list. A big question is how are you planning on carrying? On body go smaller, purse carry why not a fullsize/compact glock or CZ? What's the budget? Important decisions shouldn't be based on money but welcome to reality. What ammo does Smilley currently reload/stock for his guns. Getting another caliber when you already have a large stack of ammo isn't always smart. What are his guns? Mags that interchange are always a plus. What's you current shooting level? Buying a match type pistol for a "my target looks like it was a long range shotgun target" shooter isn't as good an idea as buying something really cheap to shoot so you can work on that control issue. Where are you on the tolerates recoil scale? A small 9mm is rather snappy. The micro 380s are as well. I've started several women on a KelTec P32. Easy to carry, low recoil, cheap, accurate, and function reliably. My wife carries hers in her body and a compact CZ 75b in her purse. She is an excellent shot (possibly better than I, high praise) and decided the CZ was hers. She tried several guns before staking her claim on the CZ. I recommend you do the same.

I bought a PPS 9mm when I turned 21. I've carried it for about 7 years now. It's a great gun but I think I'm going to sell it and get a glock 43. I also carry a g19 and g26 depending on how I'm dressed and my biggest problem with the PPS is the mag release.
Back when it was my only carry pistol it wasn't much or a problem, but now that I have so many other pistols with a normal mag releases I find myself getting tripped up on the PPS when every second counts. |
|
Go shoot them all. Try them on if you can. I really like the G43. That being said there are some other good choices. Don't let anyone pick your gun.

With the recent drop in price I'd lean toward PPS. PPS has a nice trigger compared to the others. |
