I’ve never liked Flat Dark Earth as a color on gear but I especially detest it on guns and gun accessories. Maybe it has something to do with living in one of the greenest areas in the country and maybe I’d feel different if I was in Iraq or even Nevada.
Maybe they remind me of the once ubiquitous beige Toyota Camrys but damn I hate Gucci tan. I will pass up a great deal on guns and accessories like they would give me aids if it’s FDE. Nobody even seems to be able to agree on what color FDE actually is. One needs look no further than the FN SCAR in its 14 colors of mismatched baby shit tones to see this. |

Feel you, bro. And I say this as a guy with two tan SCARs(all I could get).

I've got a few, I like them in general. I think they're kind of sexy.

Tan camo's better even in a mostly green environment than black.
In fact, it does better than a solid dark OD green as well. Light earth tones don't stick out like black and dark earth tones at distance. All the tan in Multicam is what makes it so effective across a variety of terrain. |

FDE hates you OP
I am partial to any earth tone or anything not black. OD is nice and practical too. |

ODG is more better, but FDE is better than black. Black makes no sense, and most of my guns are black.

I used to not like it. Then I had a safe full of black guns and now I'm like "yeah.....blacks a bit boring"
FDE is good but you ever see the FDE HK uses on their guns? Oh man, love that color. My most recent project: Attached File |

I only have it on one.
That’s my go-to for when the urge strikes me to dance around in my underwear, LARPing as a grunt in the sandbox. I usually only do that the second Wednesday of each month. |

I base color preference on low emissivity and least likely to be noticed. Black is the worst for those, and fde pretty good.

Move to Texas. I hated it until
It was the color of literally everything |

If ODG was a better color in the forest than FDE then deer and coyotes would be green instead of tan. You'd think they would stand out more than they do against the green, but they really just fade into it.

View Quote This is a distinct possibility, but there are a few other explanations: 1) Tan is good enough based on the characteriatics of their predators' visual function. 2) Evolution didn't "figure out" how to make green fur, or it would be difficult for the animal's body to make the pigment. But really, I think it's this: tan is a good year-round compromise color, since it is present even in the winter. FDE and tan are effective camouflage colors, I just think they look kinda shitty on guns. |

Meh, I like it.
Wasn’t the color based on a cardboard box at magpul? |

cool if yout overseas in the sandbox but otherwise over here... meh....

I like it, it's a better base to paint over than black. Even by itself it sticks out less than black but with some greens added it works pretty well around here.

I don’t give a flying fuck what other ppl do with their stuff

Let the butthurt flow through you OP.
EOD clone is various shades of "factory" FDE. Attached File Or how about Federal Field Drab? It's described as a warm brown with green tones. It does appear to change slightly depending on the background. Attached File |
