My wife saw this come across her Facebook feed. Normally I wouldn't post this type of thing, but it looks like a great idea for being prepared for an emergency. I'm going to buy a set or 2 to keep in the vehicles.

I think they'd have to have some small metal teeth imbedded into the plastic to be useful on ice. That's the only thing I would need them for.....4x4 with good treads are okay on snow.

Nothing really new here. I used emergency chains almost like these back in the early 80's.
They were good for about one use  if you did much spinning. |

Meh, I just get snow tires. 2 sets of wheels and tires for the Jeep.
 Been getting good use out of them this winter. Glad I went a size taller, and lifted the WJ a bit, too. |

These would be nice to keep around for getting unstuck. I thought up something similar based off of the slip on cleats that the railroad gives us, but didn't have any money to make it happen.

I cant imagine those would hold up long at all. I mean like a coupe hundreds yards long too. Maybe I'm wrong, and I hope I am, cause those are a neat idea. I think I'd carry a set more for trailers than for my actual car though.
Of course the better solution is to move some place where you dont need such things.

There is simply no way the supply chain of a cell phone can adapt to a full design overhaul and implement in mass production in a two week time span without that design already being fully tooled up and tested as a backup option. |

I'm getting the impression from people here that they think these are for full-time chain use. These look like something to help you get out of a bind when your wheels are spinning and you need to get to a patch of ground with traction.
You can't put on regular chains if you can't move forward or backward. They're meant to get ripped up trying to get out of your slick patch and then clipped off. Not everybody carries sand and a shovel in the back of their passenger car. At least that's my take on it. |
