When they entered the workforce at 18yo - they were told to pay in x% of their salary to the Govt who would pay them a pension at a certain age. Then the Govt moved that age up a year. Then another year. Then another. The French got sick of it. A pension you PAID FOR is not a fucking handout. Edit - although I get my occupational pension at 60 - I have to wait to 67 to get the UK state pension that I contributed to via my salary. When I started contributing at 16 yo - it was due at 65 ( 60 for females ) Then a few years ago it moved to 66. Now its 67. I have no doubt, before I get to the age of 67, it will move to 68. |

the citizens are absolutely right for fighting the government. look at us… no fighting and our retirement age is what now.. 67? went from 62 to 67 and not a peep. it will go to 70 and they will tell you your life is not worth the cost so ‘no benefits for you!’ the french people see the writing on the wall and are being proactive. we are not our forefathers taking proper steps to keep our .gov in check. we sit idly by and let them tread. |

Lots of European nations with little or no direct impact on us so they fall into the category of "shit I don't really need to know about". Like it or not the US was one of the 800lb gorillas of the world so it's fairly natural that others were more in tune to know about us than we were about them. Ask people who was the leader of Britain or the USSR back in the day and most were aware of the names. I'm sure if I asked Europeans who the current leadership is in Sudan, Chad, and Ethiopia they might not fare so well. Today... what the hell does Britain matter to anything. Shit, soon to be us. |
