In December of 2017 I had to take my wife to a Neighbors ER on Christmas Eve. She had gotten the flu pretty bad. Neighbors is a freestanding ER so the wait isn't very long. A Hispanic woman and two, presumably, teenage daughters walked in front of us. The lady behind the counter told the woman that this ER doesn't accept Medicare or Medicaid. The woman and two teenagers left and they looked upset. I just looked at their website and it says they are not able to bill Medicaid or Medicare. I wonder how they get out of seeing non payers?
On a side note, after insurance my wife was billed $754. When they called about the bill I went round and round with them and was eventually able to settle with them for $450 cash at their location. I then went to work and was bragging to a coworker about my negotiating skills. He called me a fucking amateur, told me you are not supposed to even take their calls until the third try, and then you settle in the $250 to $300 range. I felt small after that.

Apopened to a hospital here in Phoenix a few years back. The only people who went to this hospital were illegals, and since the hospitals won't turn them away, they were burning through all their money since no one ever paid them for their services.

Friendly reminder to handle your medical shit through your primary provider and subsequent referrals. Stop putting things off and take care of business as soon as possible. Don't gamble with an emergency visit. Ensure that you are physically fit, or at the minimum, generally healthy when the free two-way range finally opens up for everyone.
