OP, you should be more concerned with your pain meds plugging you up (in addition to being dehydrated) and then trying to give birth out of your butt to a 10 oz. brick.

Talk to me when you've had your wisdom teeth and tonsils taken out a year apart, a couple days before thanksgiving. Then you can bitch.

Oh...and I used zero pain meds except ibuprofen. My mom and gf hid them from me since they didn't want me to abuse them. I had never taken them before in my life either.

Stop complaining.

This... f'n millinial crybabies.  I had mine all four done under local, no prescriptions afterwards just Advil. Drive myself home and helped a friend move later that day. I did end up with four dry sockets but didn't even know it until I went back for the follow-up check and doc asked how my pain level was before packing with that medicated gauze -- instant relief I didn't even realize I needed.

I had three wisdom teeth taken out yesterday, age 37 (yeah I know, sort of late).  One was impacted, still a little bleeding this morning.  Local anesthetic only.  Worst part of the procedure was the anesthetic shots, I didn't really mind the pressure and cracking noises after I was numbed.  One of those hurt so much it drew a tear to my eye.  The doc seemed pretty legit though.

Got a script for hydrocodone, haven't taken any.  I don't like pain killers.  But not taking any was probably a mistake yesterday, the pain last night was no fucking joke and I felt totally wrung out this morning.  Feeling a lot better now after a hearty lunch of cheese and broccoli soup and fine ground chicken salad, the pain is no more than a tenth of what it was.

Cost me $30 out of pocket, go go deluxe dental plan.

Why is that? Is it because the extraction process can damage the neighboring teeth, or the shifting can cause crowns to not fit later? It's just the fact they're giving me zero problems that's bothering me. Just reminds me of used car salesmen.

Every single time I have been put under anesthesia I have woken up feeling depressed. It has to be the meds they give you, but it has happened literally every time.

Usually takes a week or two before I feel normal again.

Had mine out yesterday, at 21 (MiG-21!?) all impacted, was bleeding profusely when I got home. Woke up, still weaping a bit of blood, and I'm honestly...well...sad.

I'm not suicidal or anything, but just don't want to get up out of bed. I'm worried I'll get four dry sockets (Sneezed a lot, and I suffer from notoriously bad luck.) and I hate my dentist. Don't trust him (Connecticut sucks) and I just don't know what to really do. I feel like I'm going to die of complications (Hey, I felt the same way after my testicular torsion surgery, too, and I'm still standin' here!) but maybe I'm just paranoid.

Anyone else ever been "depressed" or just unhappy with life after something like this?

I wish I was like my grandpa. He was years younger than me, a Marine and on the battlefield in Korea, rescuing someone from a minefield. He had a pacemaker inserted while conscious. I just wish I had the balls he has and wasn't such a big baby. (I was unsure if I'd even make it back alive from the Oral Surgeon's office.)

I'm just curious if my emotions are something other people felt after having this done. I'm paranoid my sutures will rip, or I'll die of hypotension from a combination of dehydration, medication, and the blood I lost. I feel pretty good right now (in some pain, and still weeping a lil blood) and not like I'm going into shock or anything, but I just think I'll never feel better. (I tend to focus on short term stuff.)

On the bridge side, I watched Kung Fury and thought it was pretty funny.

Sorry I lack courage.

It's probably just the drugs.  Whatever you're taking, try ibuprofen instead.  Seriously.  My doc have me hydrocodone and prescription strength ibuprofen.  The ibuprofen was way better at controlling the pain and no side effects.

I had mine out at 29.  It sucked for a few days not being able to eat anything but mush.

Wisdom teeth removal isn't a trivial procedure. It's normal to be scared after if you have some complications. You should be fine in the end. Take your pain meds and try to sleep.

Did you wake up from surgery with the entire right side of your face numb?  Or three days after surgery you have a 104 degree fever and the AF ER decided you need to go back to Wilford Hall where you had surgery.  Then the ambulance they sent you in engine blows up and you are standing on the side of the road next to it in the rain thumbing a ride? Your story is weak.

I had four teeth removed after the wisdom teeth impacted and I was about 55. My gums bled for the first two days and then started healing up after that. I tried taking the hydrocodone that the oral surgeon prescribed me. I took one and it made me nauseous and I wanted to throw up. I never took another one. The pain wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Just a lot of burning whenever I tried to eat for the first two days.

The worst part about the whole experience wasn't the surgery, it was the mouth clamp or whatever he used to keep my mouth open for 45 minutes. That severely bruised my mouth at the base of my lower gums/jaw and hurt the worst. In fact, it caused lock jaw where I couldn't open my mouth more than about 1 1/2" to eat. It felt like electric shocks in my head and jaw if I tried to open my mouth wider than that. That lasted for about 30 days. The result was that I only ate about 1/3 what I normally ate because my jaw would get tired from trying to get food into my mouth and trying to chew was difficult. I lost about 15 lbs because of it. Also, while laying in bed at night I would feel pain shooting from my jaw up to the top of my skull. Believe me, if all you have is bleeding gums and some pain from the surgery, be happy with that. You don't want the lock jaw afterward. That is much worse. My gums healed up nicely and without problems.

If the 3rd molars aren't occluding with one another and are not functioning (they usually aren't), then they are usually making things bad for the periodontal and restorative health of the 2nd molars. The 3rd molar make it very difficult for the dentist to get a good finish line or margin on the distal surface (back surface) of the 2nd molar restoration and impossible for the patient to keep it clean. The 3rd molar sets-up the 2nd molar for restorative and periodontal failure.

So, even if they aren't bothering you, a dentist usually is being the "used car saleman" if he does work involving the distal surface of the second molar without talking about the potential problems you/he will face in the future. Usually.

Suck it up. I had two of mine (impacted) pulled my a hungover Army Dentist well after hours . He only showed up because the girl I was dating at the time was good friends with the chief of staff of the hospital and the fact my throat was damn near swollen shut. That fucker missed with the first shot and by the time he was fighting the second tooth, he was STANDING on the arms of the chair and I could feel about 50% of what was going on.  I had cramps in my fingers because of how hard I was gripping that damn chair. The Sgt who was helping out told me later she almost puked when only HALF of the first tooth came out and the Dentist asked (I flinched) "Did you feel that?"

I had Laser tonsillectomy. It was a miserable experience. I was in a sort of twilight. Afterward, I felt like I was going to suffocate. That night when we went to bed I couldn't/wouldn't sleep because I was convinced I was going to suffocate and die. I sat up all night. I was upset because my hubby went to sleep and left me to die... I've never had feelings quite like that before, or after.

He kept telling me I was breathing fine and it was the drugs messing with my head, which it was. It is hard to see that when your in the grip of it. I hope I never have a wacko night like that again.

Don't lay down after having your wisdom teeth out, sleep up right in a chair or sofa. If you lay down the wounds will just keep bleeding.

I hate dentists so when I was having my 4 wisdom teeth removed in May 1993 I was offered a sedative by injection.
I was awake but felt no pain. I was even joking with the staff that I enjoyed the injection so mimics I'd love to come back the following week for another one.
No depression or anything else.

your failing op.

holy fuck, you didn't get diagnosed with fucking cancer, its fucking wisdom teeth. I had mine pulled back around 1994... grow the fuck up.  my fiancies daughter has been diagnosed with cancer, and she has drug ass getting her treatment. been a YEAR now, and shes finally getting surgery to remove it next week...her BEST CASE SCENERIO is to have a total Hysterectomy at age 29, and never be able to have kids, and cancer free...... worst case is she dies from it, because it spread, because shes waited so long for surgery..   wisdom teeth... holy fuck, that's your complaint?

life gets a LOT simpler when you learn to accept the fact that " YOU ARE GOING TO FUCKING DIE".... maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but it will happen. you have already outlived millions of people who didn't make it to your age, you have had a way more satisfying life than millions of people before you had, so, be fucking thankful for what you have been blessed with...your not doing so bad.  just accept your only here for a short time, and learn to make the most of your time. being depressed because " you might die", is a waste of time. sitting around and crying about how long you have left is a waste of time as well... enjoy life, its temporary.

Your thinking process is part of the problem.  The dry sockey worry is a bad outcome projection.  That is, you're thinking about the possibility in the future of a bad outcome.  Live in the present and deal with things as they come.  Most of what people worry about never comes to pass and you're causing yourself grief and distress just by thinking negatively about the future.
