OP it's not just fashion or the way people present themselves. It's all of society. Not sure if it's just America, but we are a nation of classless fat slobs who couldn't care less about themselves or anybody else. We dress accordingly.

I honestly have no idea where a regular joe would go to shop for dressy clothes.
I would guess that there's very expensive designer stuff for white collar city folks, and low rent uniform typeworker bee stuff. |

View Quote Everyone gives them shit, but you can get a decent looking suit at Men's Warehouse for a reasonable price. If you aren't the type that has off the rack stuff fit you well though you'll need to go somewhere to have one tailored though. If you are a dude that needs a very expensive suit or 5, you probably need to go directly to a tailor or high end place. For the rest of us that just need a jacket and pants every now and then, see if you can find a brand that fits you well off the rack and have it altered if you you need to. |

Take care of your tools. Have a nice watch. Know which utensil to use. To eat your steak medium-rare at most. How to enjoy bourbon. How to enjoy wine. Know which direction is north. Hold the door open for anyone, especially women. Rotate your ties. Own a sport coat. Own a suit. I'll be 40 next year and I still think all that matters. GD is such a spaghetti of not knowing what they truly want. Its either a race to be the less caring and cheapest or to be the most opulent. If someone doesn't agree with the way one feels then that makes that person some sorta troglodyte in their narrow world. I like nice clothes. I love well fitted jacket, shirt, jeans, nice shoes, all that stuff. I love the confidence it gives me and how people look at me, especially the women-folk. That's it. That's all there is to it for me. If you think that makes me a Yes Man, Boomer, or whatever stupid fucking term that GD wants to latch onto this quarter then that's on you -- GD loves its wide, broad brushes. View Quote Well said. |

Quoted: I had some time on my hands this afternoon so I took a ride to some stores to look at a new pair of brown leather shoes and maybe a new sport jacket. My in-laws are coming in this week for my wedding and I figured a new jacket my be nice for dinner. All the department stores are disgusting and a mess with fake leather garbage. Ok. I go to Jos a banks and they said the only have 1 style in stock. All the other men’s shops had zero stock. Ugly plain sport coats. Like wtf happened, they decided to make garbage in China and now can’t get any stock...... View Quote Most people now are savages. For as long as I can remember pop culture has been pushing the idea that sophisticated and dignified people with standards are no fun and to be emulated. And at the same time we're told to embrace hip-hop and hood culture, and never taught the value of taking yourself seriously or aspirating any degree of excellence. My wife just interviewed a candidate for a middle management job who showed up in bright red tennis shoes, jeans and a polo shirt tucked in with no belt. That's honestly what passed for professional these days Elites are genuinely evil people, but they're not wrong about the general public. |

I found a nice travel jacket online and then went to a dress shop to have it fitted. No tailors within an hour drive

I don't mind wearing a decent sport coat, dress shirt, and tie. But the bottom half will be jeans and boots. I have been a pallbearer for 3 close loved ones wearing exactly that. I don't wear slacks, and I'm not going to.

Mrs Rabinowitz buys my clothes. I'll always have at least one tailored suit, a half dozen sharp long sleeved shirts, and 2 pair of slim cut NOT SKINNY LEG jeans.

Quoted: Married guys, that don’t wear collared shirts, suits or blazers, does your wife ever want to get dressed up and go out to a place that requires a reservation? View Quote I'm married. The wife doesn't like to dress up to go out for the most part. Not a whole lot of places you even need a reservation for right now and being in vegas most of them are very accepting of just about any dress. There are plenty of golf courses and clubs that have dress codes like no denim and needs a collar but I'll wear a short sleeve button down from rei or wrangler outdoor or whatever that is lighter and more comfortable than a t shirt in the hot sun and shorts that don't have baggy cargo pockets. Most of the time we go do stuff that results in us getting dirty and sweaty and then like to bring our dogs and sit outside with them. |
