The other Five Guys thread got me thinking... are the Five Guys on the East Coast better than the other locations? This poll will in no way prove anything... but I'm still curious. I'm a (Western) Virginia boy by birth... but have lived in or near NoVA for over a decade... and I think Five Guys makes the best burgers you can get outside of homemade. A lot of people on the interwebs disagree. Poll incoming! Here's a link to the other thread... for the record: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1894358_I_went_to_5_Guys_today.html Carl's Jr was easily the worst burger I ever had. Carl's is at least better than McDonalds or White Castle, but that's not saying much. |

Why, do they use a different bun on the east coast? They will never be in the running for best burger, as long as they use that shitty bun. Even McDonalds had a better bun than them for a while, when they had the Angus burger (gone now). They change the bun? I've had 5 guys in Virginia, Georgia, and Colorado. So far all the same. How at they different from pace to place? Where in VA? Norfolk, on base. Grabbing a bite before hitting the tug to catch a Boat. I've ridden a tug out of Norfolk Naval to catch a boat myself! Cheers man! Ah, a fellow Rider. Ate your food, breathed your air, but we were not there. |

Ate there for the first time tonight. Just a burger. No better than Wendy's.

I like it. I think the fries are great, and burgers are decent.

5 Guys all over Georgia.
I like 'em. And Malt Vinegar is +1 on fries AND fish |

Five guys is nothing more than an over priced In-N- Out burger. Most of the time it is inferior to In-N-Out.

They are very greasy but the fries are great!
Some of the best burgers I've had are at little 'out of the way' places. Freddy's steak burgers are kinda good, but different. I prefer Ernest Hemmingway's recipe for the serving a hungry crew. I will take the time to pan-sear them before bringing them to the grill so they don't fall through. Stinky linky for my greasy pinky |
|
I've only had it once (St. Louis) and I was shocked, after all the hype, at how much I wasn't impressed. I absolutely LOVE cheeseburgers and fries, and after paying ~$12 for a double cheese, fry, and large Coke, it was just "okay" and no better. Definitely not impressed.
Edit: Saw White Castle mentioned above--as I said, I practically live on cheeseburgers, but the gut bombs at WC are the only time I've ever found something I couldn't finish. Absolutely horrible. Blech! |

Their burgers remind me of Wendy's. Of the chain burgers I've had, Fatburger is my favorite.

Five Guys isn't bad but I've had it tear through my stomach a few times. Not sure if it was the burger or the fries. I think overall the meal was just too greasy for me. I don't generally eat stuff that greasy. |

I'd go back for the burger, but as others have stated, the fries were half-cooked and completely saturated with grease.
|

I'm surprised they stay in business around here, they are always empty when I drive by. The burger would be decent if they didn't use such a shitty bun that disintegrates halfway through eating the burger. The fries are ok with the Cajun dust. I haven't been to a five guys in probably 3-4 years, so so many better places.

Five guys is nothing more than an over priced In-N- Out burger. Most of the time it is inferior to In-N-Out. View Quote In-N-Out was the most confusing fast food experience I have ever had. After years of hearing people jive about it, I finally had the opportunity to partake in the experience. The whole way there, everyone was talking about how great it was, what I should get, and how it's been too long since their last burger. I arrive at the burger joint, scan the menu, and with the assistance of the people who were raving, placed and order. After waiting 10 minutes for my magical hamburger, I was presented with what I could consider the "basic bitch" of hamburgers. It was literally just average, nothing more, maybe even lesser than average. to this day, when I hear someone rave about In-N-Out, they drop down a notch or two on the respect meter because I can safely assume their opinions are easily guided (misguided) by the people around them and cannot think or themselves. They probably will vote for Hillary. |

Meh, not that impressed. Decent, but could be much better. Buns suck, as others have noted. Bacon is overcooked. A bit on the greasy side. The meat tastes like it wasn't seasoned. Better than average in other respects and they have a decent topping list. I really liked the cajun fries, and they gave you a good amount, but recently they have been undercooking them, giving you fewer fries, and have raised their price twice. They also skimp on the cajun seasoning; I have to ask for extra. They also have one of the higher soft drink prices around here. I've never had excessively greasy fries like others experience, though. The prices overall are too high, so I rarely go there.
The style is simply different from In-n-Out. They are not especially comparable. I will say that the buns and meat are tastier than Five Guys, but you get a significantly bigger burger at the latter and at least bacon is an option. In-n-Out does grilled onions way better (they are outright carmelized). In-n-Out is hardly the be-all, end-all of burgers, though. They do cost less. I can almost feed three people there for what it costs to feed one person at Five Guys. The staff at both have always been above average for burger joints. A much better burger can be had elsewhere, especially at such a high price point. Brown Bag is one of the best, IMO. |

I like their burgers. I never order their fries or any other side if they even have them, they give way too much and is just plainly horrible.

I've always been a Five Guys fan, and I've had a lot of burgers and fries at their earlier restaurants in Virginia. That said, I've tried them in Casper, WY, Bozeman, MT, and a couple of other places since moving out here, and it's been exactly the same as back east. I think the owners take great pains to keep everything uniform across the restaurants.

Don't like the fries. Burgers are good. Not a place I actively seek out though. Cost for benefit isn't great. Wendys does just as well for me. Sorry fanboys.

I think they're pretty good. A little on the expensive side but I only have it every once in a while. They give you a ton of fries and the burgers are always satisfying.
