*Excluding your mortgage*

Do you spend more than $4k in an average month? Personal expenses only, do not count business costs.

Sometimes, it’s certainly atypical though.

ETA: first.

With very few rare exceptions, I don't spend 4k a month including the mortgage and all other necessities.

Yep. $2k just in car notes.

Even then, including mortgage, it's less than 60% of our take home. So NBD.

Lol we hit the $4k mark before week 2.

Edit, missed the excluding mortgage part, so week 3.

That depends on how we're calculating expenses.

Generally I budget ~3k/mo for regular living expenses. But that doesn't include any retirement savings or gun purchases. It also doesn't cover months with major repair bills or vehicle expenses.

There comes a point where you are just buying stuff to buy stuff. Really have been trying to cut back on that. Excluding mortgage 4k a month is hard to hit if you own your vehicles.

Our monthly output is roughly $12k, however that does include a $3,600 mortgage. Me, wife and two kids.

PG&E was $500 last month.
Food bill was close to a $1,000
Health Insurance was $2,400

Soooo... without much digging at all we are almost at $4k.

Yes, roughly $500-$700 a month into two retirement accounts.

However, as long as my business is doing well, retirement accounts won't matter.

No mortgage, no vehicle loan, no credit card debt.
Retired and essential expenses run on average of $1650 a month and it includes ALL expenses that make up essentials including insurance on two vehicles and house as well as property taxes and internet and cable.
Hell I even budget $60 a month for Christmas spending.
Discretionary expenses( play money) runs from $300 a month to as much as a $1000 a month.
Life is good.

Outside of rent, I don't break $600 a month. When you spend a couple years making $1300 a month, you learn to be thrifty pretty quick. Plus I have more shit than i know what to do with so I have no need to buy things.

Yeah when I see what some people pay in health insurance I start to get butterflies in my stomach.

I thought Obama said he was going to make it affordable for everyone.

Total household bills are less than $3k/month.

Trying to live well below my means as that’s less than half take home pay at this point.  I remember when we first built the house we were really stretching our budget.  Promised the wife that in a few years that mortgage we think is big will be pocket change.  I was right.  Now my monthly property tax escrow equals the mortgage payment.

I spent +$40K to buy a new car a couple weeks ago, but normally we don't spend 4K a month. We have no debt so taxes, utilities, and insurance make up the bulk of our expenses beyond things we buy but don't need.

ETA, not joking around..... for a while we spent $3500 on daycare for our two kids. Welcome to the Bay, suckers.....

yes.  employer subsidized health insurance really obfuscates the actual cost which has BALLOONED since ACA/0-care.  Just like payroll withholding for income tax - nobody really looks at their pay stub.
