Like I've said before, I live in liberal utopia Seattle and have a mix of friends from all political backgrounds (MAGA, ultra-libertarian, ultra-leftists, etc..)
I hear more about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on a daily basis on this FORUM than I do over weeks of random conversations with my friends. You guys are seriously obsessed with her and it's borderline creepy. It reminds me a lot of the lefts obsession with Palin a few years back...they hate her positions/statements but secretly have this weird crush on her and couldn't shut the fuck up about her. Stop letting mass media dictate who you should care about. Just because a small group (but very vocal) young outspoken socialists on twitter types fangirl over AOC doesn't mean you need to play that game. You have one tiny but loud group calling her the 2nd coming of Christ and other side making her out to be this powerful boogeyman. You're getting played by both sides by the media. Stop giving the cunt attention. Stop spreading her bullshit or quoting some new batshit proposal of hers. Stop trying to create a narrative that her ideas are even remotely close to being mainstream. They're not and no amount of doomsday "This is the new left and we must be prepared blah blah." No, it's not. You're being PLAYED. The thing I find with most leftists is that they're incredibly worried on how they'll be perceived in front of other leftists friends. So they might privately admit they're interested in guns and ask me to help them with gun shopping...but they'll NEVER get on social media and be public about it simply because they know their side will instantly destroy them for not towing the narrative. Yeah, the leftists have "acceptance" but only when it comes to their bubble. The gatekeeping is absolutely brutal. I'm almost 40 and most of my friends are in their late 20s to early 50s. Maybe you're around different people because a majority of my left/right friends are sick and tired of the SJW stuff. Right now I'm seeing a huge backlash because the small group of vocal SJW are basically destroying anything fun...it's like you have to look in a 360 before making a joke in a bar so not to upset anyone. The problem is my friends aren't the vocal types. The SJW movement is a mobilized active group...they're actually a really small minority group but they know how to get their opinions out via social media so it comes across as a bigger deal. Like all of that Buzzfeed BS articles "Everyone is outraged over this______" where as "Everyone" is like 100 people on twitter that bitch about everything but their tiny numbers appear to look larger. I rarely meet real SJW in the wild but I also tend not to hang around areas like Capitol Hill. If anything, most of the people in my area are in software and tend to lean towards libertarianism. Just a mix of keep government out of our shit and learn to pull your bootstraps up. I see a lot of this with my Asian friends...minorities that came from nothing but are now extremely successful. They're too busy making buttloads of money/living life to worry about people like AOC. |
