I dont see how this can be considered any different than the AR15 dimensional schematics and CAD designs that have been out in the wild for decades. As far as I see it, all they've done is change the format of the distributable to a different platform.

If you are going to pull an appeal to authority you need to go all the way. As for David Kopel, here's his position on the matter: KOPEL: I think it depends on, from event to event. I think, in this case, the issue of bump stocks, which can -- it is allegedly seems to be true, make a semi-automatic firearm fire as fast as automatic, probably should be regulated at same level as a machine gun. You should have to go through that same federal process to purchase one. I've read a lot from Kopel and from what I can tell, he doesn't know what a bump stock is or how a bump stock works. Of course that doesn't matter because supports the NFA structure as it exists and existing regulations on machine guns (he called for legislation adding bump stocks to the NFA registry and offering a limited tax free amnesty here). You openly support a Federal executive agency altering federal statute that has the potential to render all or some of your fire arms as contraband and you support that. But some some tweets about 3D printed guns is what gets you in a fighting mood?
