Sounds like any studio drummer, really.

Nothing special, IMO.

Pretty much. While that pattern might sound complicated to an untrained ear, it's really not. It never really changes and his fills weren't that special.
He's pretty much keeping time so Cheryl Crow can sound good.
I haven't played in almost thirteen years since my brother from another mother died ( he was the singer and bass player), Give me a decent band and a little while to knock the rust off and I could replicate it, probably get bored and start improvising during the verses and tweak the fills.
Of course, guitar players always said I was stomping on their lead breaks.

A lot of those studio guys are incredibly talented, you don't get hired by a star to play on their tracks if you aren't, but are usually just supporting and not trying to take the spotlight.

Steely Dan had some amazing studio drummers.

Santa playing Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock is just breathtaking. The drummer is barely old enough to drive, yet he plays hard. Especially the last half.

Dream Theater Instrumedley PORTNOY ONLY - "The Dance of Instrumentals"

If you compare Portnoy's fills, runs, riffs, and style with Mangini, It is eye opening how one player can play perfectly but not as well as the guy who is "feeling it". Just not the same without the original Portnoy.

A friend of mine knew Santana when she was a young kid.  He used to come by to make "purchases" from her parents.

She knew a few other famous people in California, including George Lucas, but I don't remember who all she mentioned.

Or maybe more feel less technical?

I'm not sure how many can appreciate the give and take, seamlessness going on between Portnoy and Keneally.

Go check out a song called La Villa Strangiato and get back to me...

Time Stand Still is one of my favorite songs to crank up and air-drum along to. I'm sure I look totally idiotic but don't care. Neal is a busy man in that song.

I don't know how technical/difficult it really is, but I also love the drums in Don't You Forget About Me by Simple Minds.
