Had Maultaschen in Stuttgart back in the day and yet to find a place in the US that makes them.

Quoted: We have only one real German restaurant in San Diego - Kaiserhoff in Ocean Beach. It's mediocre. There used to be a couple of really good ones in La Jolla - The Rheinlander and the Bratskellar, but they're long gone. German food just isn't a thing around here. We have plenty of Mexican and seafood places, and a handful of good Italian restaurants. View Quote @California_Kid try Tip Top Meats in Carlsbad. German store and restuarant. Been a couple years since I was last there but it was pretty good. |

Been a couple years since I was last there but it was pretty good. JKnight In about 1980 I went to the Del Mar racetrack with the owner of Tip Top and his girlfriend, who was my friend's grandmother. I watched him lose about $3K on horses, all the while with a big grin on his face. The food at the Turf Club was pretty good. I'm sure he is long gone. The food is really good at Tip Top but the traffic getting there from San Diego and back is a nightmare even on a good day. Thanks for the reminder. |

Another vote for Hollerbachs. I just wish Theo (or his daughter who runs it now) would finally get some good whiskey in at least one of the bars.

Quoted: What's your favorite German restaurant? Mine is Hollerbach's in Sanford, Fl. Awesome rueben and love me some Erdinger. View Quote Winzer Stube in Hudson WI. Very very good. Second is Little Bavaria south of OKC. |

I can't say that I've ever had a distinctly German dish that inspired me to have a 'favorite' German food. I like anything breaded and fried and I'll eat potatoes most any way you cook them but I don't need to call any of that 'German'. And cabbage is 'meh' outside of good old American cole slaw.
Having said all that, Bacara's in Jamestown, TN is pretty good. |

Serious answer, there's a place here called The Rathskeller that a lot of people rave about, I finally went there a couple months ago and wasn't as impressed as I'd hoped. I actually prefer the German restaurant at Epcot in Orlando.
There's another place here called Heidelberg Haus, it's kind of a combination cafe/bakery and grocery store/gift shop. My wife is German and she introduced me to it, very cool place. |

It was Karl Ratzsch’s in Milwaukee. I guess Maders could be second.

When I'm in Anchorage, I try to hit West Berlin at least once.

Have three in the US:
1) The Berghoff Resturant in Chicago, Illinois. 2) The Hofbrauhaus in Las Vegas, Nevada. 3) Hollerbach's Willow Tree Café German Restaurant in Sanford, Florida. |

Quoted: Suppenkuche in San Francisco. I think it's my favorite restaurant, period. It's really small, so you have to share tables with other diners, which sounds not great, but it has always been a fun good experience. The food's great and it's relatively cheap for fine dining. View Quote My German passport carrying wife likes Suppenkuche |

I used to go to The Village Lanterne here on Long Island.
It was run by relatives of Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple and he and his girlfriend used to perform there occasionally as their duet "Blackmore's Night." |

Quoted: I knew someone from Mich would mention one of these! View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Zehnders or (across the street) Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth, MI. Might be biased, though. They are a five minute walk from the house. I knew someone from Mich would mention one of these! I’ve done Bavarian Inn, it was excellent. Frank’s myth is a neat place. I always get my wife an ornament from Bronners Christmas World. |

We have hosted several German high school kids over the years.
One thing I know Nana would say is: "Those are not German restaurants, they are Austrian" |

There was a great place back in Minneapolis, Gasthof zur Gemütlichkeit, that I don’t think ever fully recovered from the liberal wrath when it was discovered it had hosted annual dinner parties for a local German WW2 reenactment group. It closed for COVID and property now showing as for sale.
I’m sure the irony of their “flash mob” protests was completely lost on them..,, |

Hildegard's in Huntsville is the best in Alabama, at least to my knowledge. It and the runner up, Ole' Heidelburg, have a large following going back to all the Operation Paperclip Germans working on the space program in the area. It's good enough for me to drive up from Birmingham a few times each year just to go there. And if course to stop at Larry's while in town.

Quoted: There’s a restaurant worth visiting in Yuma? View Quote I wouldn't book a flight and hotel right now, but if you're ever passing through, can't go wrong with some bean and cheese burritos from Chile Pepper. Or better yet, the marlin tacos at Mar Azul with a side of toritos (Mexican chiles stuffed with shrimp, cheese then battered and deep fried.) |

The Schmankerl Stube Bavarian Restaurant in Hagerstown MD. My mouth is watering just thinking about eating there.
