Anyone else collect and wear new/vintage fedoras or other full-brimmed hats?  Let's see 'em.

Most of my collection, all vintage 1930s-1960s.

That is the single piece of clothing from our history that I most hope will make a comback.

I have a beaver felt Stetson that I got instead of a class ring.  I would wear a fedora in the winter if I could find one.  Where is a good place to get new ones?

Nice hats. OBird has the right of it. Why the heck did they ever go out of style?

Try this place: http://www.hats-plus.com/default.aspx

Local men's stores usually have cheap ones.  If you want a good quality hat look for ones made of beaver felt, otherwise you'll have to settle for a lower quality wool hat.

He's right.  As of late they're making a comeback, a small one though.

There's many reasons that fedoras went out of style.  Some people blame President Kennedy for it since he rarely wore them, but hat sales were on the decrease since the 1920s.  Honestly, I can't give a definitive answer.

I have a hat fetish... yea I know weird fetish but would it be a fetish if it wasn't weird?

I have 4 custom westernish style 30x felt hats, 1 custom bowler, 4 fedoras, a few nice straw jobs, a few of those nice heavy wool Bancroft berets (best winter hat ever!), and a few misc hats. Not one baseball cap though!

I love fedoras and should buy one. But I always look "odd" with one on. I think it's the shape of my head. I dunno.

Fedoras have already been back with the emos.

Get them to stop wearing them, first.

It isn't as bad as the brokeback mountain crowd.  Making all cowboys look like faggots.

A man with a Fedora in a nice suit will be differentiated from kiddie trash.

Mine isnt vintage. It IS a wool hat that is about 70-80 bucks at Dillards, and I paid 10 bucks at marshalls. Awesome. It is a broad brim hat, a bit like what Indiana Jones would wear, but its dark green wool which goes with my dark green trench coat. It looks dark brown when I wear my leather jacket with it.

My ideal one is a black one with a broad brim - ala the Shadow!

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows - HAHAHAHAHA!

My problem with hats is you can wear them IN any where and to keep an expensive one safe I have to leave it in the car. Which means it never actually gets worn.

Do they make a John Deere version of the fedora?  Where's Subnet???

I have a couple hats including this Indy Style fedora that I am wearing in the pic. It is an Akubra Federation Deluxe. The standard Akubra Federation is also an Indy Style fedora, but the felt used in the Deluxe is a bit nicer.

An Indy fedora is a tough look to pull off (I don't think I do it very well). In general, a fedora with a shorter crown and narrower brim will look better on most guys.

Thanks.
That one is a Churchill, color is "London Grey", probably from the 1940s or early 1950s.  Size is 7.  I'm a 7 1/8 but it fits me fine.  It's one of my favorites, my 'everyday' hat.  Sorry, it's not for sale.
I like your Indy hat, what brand is it?  I recently created an Indy look-alike from a modern wool hat I had sitting around.  The crown isn't as high and the brim isn't as wide as Indy's, but it's similar style.  I'll post before and after pics.
Cheers

He has much bushier eyebrows, but we do have a VERY similar facial structure.

I think his nose might be a little bigger, but it's close.

He got the hottest chicks on the Sopranos, so I think some ladies dig the nose!

My turn to thank you!

Yours wouldn't fit me anyway!

My Indy hat is an Akubra Federation Deluxe. Rabbit fur felt.

Akubra made the hat with direct input from the guys at www.indygear.com/cow/ to be as screen accurate as possible.

The felt is EXCELLENT and it is a very well made hat.

It seems very little has changed.

As promised, my IJ lookalike hat.  Take an OK looking unused $10 wool hat, add a new ribbon, steam/shape for 30 minutes and you get a very convincing Indiana Jones lookalike and a classic looking hat.  Far from perfect but good enough to wear to Indiana Jone IV when it comes out next year.
