Step 1. Ignore any user or website that tells you the fed is going to seize 401ks. (as they clearly have no idea what a 401k is.)

They won’t seize it. They might tax it. Or use it for means testing social security. The government isn’t just going to sieze anything.

If/when 401k's are "seized" it will be easy as pie
Means test Social Security and medicare (medicare is already means tested). You got $200k or more in your IRA/401k/etc, no social security for you until you spend that shit down. Now we are all poor together. |

You'll have to sell eventually to convert your 401k assets into money to buy groceries, they're just going to tax the bejeezus out of us when we do. Yeah yeah Roth, good luck, nobody can guarantee that the Congress of 2042 won't gleefully hose you, tax laws certainly aren't written in stone.
During the 08'-09' crisis the plan Democrats were pushing didn't touch existing 401k's (yet), it would create super duper safe federal bonds (loans to the government) that gave pathetic returns, from the point of inception forward everybody would be forced to buy said bonds, with a bunch of means testing forcing middle and high income earners to subsidize the poor so that all of our retirements would suck. Would have siphoned off the cash flow into new 401k's. It also rolled all of the imploding public pension plans into the same program so the rest of us would have to eat their losses. AFL-CIO was a major promoter. |

I recently said fuck it and cashed mine out. Paid the penalty and all. Bought a second house and started renting one out. My retirement plan is 100% RE now. I'm hoping to add more properties as soon as I can.

But when enough Millennials and Zoomers get the numbers to become the majority voting block it will happen....... because it's not fair that you have a 401k and they have been carrying student loan debt for 40+ years and making minimum wage with their meme degree. |
