1975 Chrysler Cordoba Commercial - "Fine Corinthian Leather" - "Tradition" |
|
It's, "Rich Corinthian Leather".
The Mopar gods have mercy on you. |
|
|
And it was a made up marketing term. No such thing as corinthian leather
|
|
I once read that "Fine Corinthian Leather" was nothing more than a marketing scheme by Chrysler to make their shitboxes appear more luxurious than they actually were.

You just know Ricardo was slaying all of the women on Fantasy Island. What women could resist?
ETA: I remember reading that Tattoo died a rather slow painful death caused by his dwarfism. Sadly, the way Herve “Tattoo” Villechaize’s life ended is anything but a fantasy. Herve died at 50 years young in 1993 and here’s how. In the wee morning hours of September 4, 1993, Herve took his own life at the age of 50, by shooting himself in the head with a gun in the backyard of his Hollywood, Ca. home. His then girlfriend, Kathy Self, was asleep in the home and woke up after hearing the shot fired. She found Herve shortly after and discovered that he’d left a suicide note stating that his health had taken a toll on him and he could no longer handle the pain. Herve had a long history of health issues that became worse over time due to him having normal size internal organs that were pressing against his tissue due to his miniature sized body. And according to a New York Times report, Herve Villechaize ‘nearly died during a bout with pneumonia a year [prior to his death]. He also suffered from ulcers and a spastic colon.’ Herve was didn’t have any children but he was married twice- once to Anne Sadowski from 1970 to 1979 and secondly to Camille Hagen from 1980 to 1982. |

I find it humorous that he refers to it as the "small Chrysler". Like that's what would be considered a compact car in 1975.

Ricardo rocked and was a solid dude.
Long term marriage and family man. I remember some crap in college using him and some other actors like Antonio Banderas, Penelope Cruz, etc. as examples evil white colonialism. Like, he was not a ‘Mexican” actor and role model just because he was from Mexico. He was white/Spanish - and their roles should have went to “real indigenous/mestizo” Latin Americans. |

I thought it was "Rich Corinthian Leather"
Please don't tell me this is one of those Mandela effect things... |

They have cows in Corinth, Mississippi. Maybe they came from there?

I like what they've done to my car.
Ricardo Montalban for Cordoba 1979 TV commercial Mom had a 1980 Cordoba. It was actually a decent car and had the coldest, hardest blowing AC of any vehicle I've ever been in. No rich Corinthian leather, though. |
|
I can't see Ricardo Montalban and not hear SCTV's versions of him.

"Corinthian Leather"
"The ancient Greek city of Corinth acquired something of a proverbial reputation for sexual promiscuity, and modern biblical scholarship has frequently reiterated a view of the city as a particular hotbed of immorality and vice. " https://www.bibleodyssey.org/en/places/main-articles/corinth |

My FIL had one and it was very nice, road very well and quiet inside.

Corinthian leather was a term made up for marketing purposes. I think the actual leather used was made in New Jersey. I've never heard of the factory. However, there are some good tanneries in the U.S.A.

And the LA small block was bullet proof. |

My parents bought a 1978 Chrysler New Yorker 2 door, silver with the Landau top. Had the 440 engine and the "rich Corinthian leather". Also came with the Chrysler "Crystal Key Protection Program" (with an actual crystal key)... You can just hear 'ol Ricardo saying that in the commercials, can't you...
Anyway, the thing was a beast and despite the really low gearing in the rear end, it was pretty quick due to the 440's torque. Once you got beyond 30 MPH, it was amazing in it's acceleration. It was also a complete gas hog and required premium gas only... something my mom used to hate!! It was recalled in 1979 due to the faulty emissions carburetor and replaced per special allowance with a Holley 4 barrel (I think it was a 780 CFM unit, due to the engine size). Had that car until the early 90's (though nobody drove it by then). Many memories of sleeping in the back seat while on long road trips as the back seat was really a soft leather couch. |

Not proud of it, but I used to hunt wild Corinthians and supply their hides...just for that car.
Later, I regerted what I had done. |

Harvested from the Corinthian Bullfrog. Each animal yielding only two square inches of the rare and wonderful stuff.

I had a '75 Cordoba as my first car. It was actually pretty nice inside and rode pretty well. It had a 318 with a squeaky lifter at idle. It was rolling around well into the mid 90s after I sold it after high school.
