I added resin cowlings and engines. I started this kit 7-8 years ago or so when this was the only option for a P-61 in 1/48. I got frustrated with all the filling and sanding that was required and put it away and then finally got around to finishing it. I wouldn’t recommend the kit unless you are wanting to spend a lot of time filling seams. Damn! It’s awesome. I’ve got the Hobby Boss 1/32 kit I plan on building as my Uncles ride back in WWII. He was a P-61 test pilot, I’ve been told. I’ve got to get custom decals made for it.

This is a very old Monogram P-40 that has been in my collection of kits for decades. I did several improvements on the cockpit details. You can see the white styrene scratch built parts in the photos.

I also opened up the cowling, used aftermarket decals and used a vacuum formed canopy. This was my first model to build after a couple decades hiatus.

A relatively recent build. I scratch built most of the cockpit, all of the engine details, and hydraulic lines in the wheel wells. Only PE part used was the instrument panel.
I used various sized wire and polystyrene to complete the details. I added catapult hooks, spark plug wires, hydraulic lines, brake lines, all throttle control and trim wheels, constructed a rail for the seat, made seatbelts, and added full structural support details to the cockpit. something different, the old Monogram snap-tight Tom Daniel's funny cars. These have been re-issued by Atlantis Models.
lots of fun and a "snap" to do. When I completed Fake Out! I saw that Tamiya had some nice metallic spray paints. If I ever re-do the Fake Out! I'll use the blue metallic.       |

sometimes the same genre of kits gets boring.
so, to "cleans the palette.' The old Lindberg lighthouse as re-issued by Atlantis. With working LED light that flashes on/off   next up, I found an old Revell Tom Daniel's Roarin Rail.  sometimes, assembling an easy kit is more fun and relaxing than those monster high piece count kits. Some of them get so ridiculous. |
