Quoted: I had to have a part made (Machine shop) and they asked when I needed it done I said I was at the mercy of them and whenever they could do it would be fine. I gave it to them yesterday morning and I got it back this morning and they even powder coated it the same color as the machine. Asked how much and they said to see if it fits first and I could pay them later. They said they were used to people being demanding and I was the first person that was nice to them in a couple years View Quote This is the way I try to run my shop. We may have a 2-3 week backlog on stuff, but if you're not a douche and I have some downtime or am already shooting the color you need, I'll squeeze it in so you can get your stuff back, especially smaller parts. Our "bigger" customers, mainly the custom diesel shops, that every job has to be expedited because they waited til the last minute and now their customer is screaming at them are the ones that make me want to pull my hair out |

Back when I did residential concrete work here and there (mainstay was heavy industrial) I ran into one of those. Older guy and I could tell right off the hop that he was a special one. He wanted me to quote removing and replacing his front winding sidewalk. I had a measuring wheel so I just started walking down the center of the walk to measure it when he came unhinged. Yelling at me saying i'm a crook for cheating him on the square footage by not measuring the inside part of the radius'. I thought about explaining why I was going down the middle but instead I just stared at him for a couple seconds and then got in my truck and took off. He called my office a couple times demanding to speak to the owner. My receptionist told him each time that he had met the owner when he came out to measure.
Some people are just not happy unless they're miserable and making everyone else around them miserable as well. |

Generally speaking I can tell if I want to work for someone in 5 minutes or less just from what comes out of their mouth.
One of the best, or worst depending on you look at it was a Brain Surgeon (no joke) who just moved to town. When I arrived he was raising hell with Nebraska Furniture Mart over a sofa pillow.a minor mistake, but he wanted them to kiss his ass. Then during our 'To Do List' discussion the phone began to ring, and it rang, and rang, and he said with a red face "I'll be be right back". He ran up the stairs yelling "Answer the FUCKING phone". Then proceeded to storm into his kids rooms calling them "Lazy Mother Fuckers". Then he came back down stairs and said "Where were we?" No way, no how would I work for someone like that. |

The general public is full of idiots and assholes, I’m glad I’m not in that sector anymore. View Quote Discount Tire wrecked the finish on all 4 wheels.of my car. The entire trip home (~60 miles) has no curbs, weather was rainy and has travelled dirt roads so things were dirty and the center of my wheels, the damages section, sticks out proud from the tire almost 1/4". I have a surprisingly low ratio of assholes to cool people.
It really depends on how many dumbasses showed up before you did. The company I'm with has a great reputation and everything up until my arrival is handled very well for the most part. There are a lot of asshole tradesmen and asshole companies out there as well. With everyone being short staffed and lots of companies STILL trying to use covid as an excuse for poor operations, I'd really hate to be a customer who called a random company without checking reviews these days. Always the possibility the husband just said "yes" to whatever project wife dreamed up, so he could get laid and then decided to be a dick about it when you arrived. |

There are companies that I've been trying to do business with for two years and they don't want the money. I am almost a pushover but my business partner who is an ex ranger will tell a customer off in an instant. My partner grabs the phone and straight to the point tells him to come get his shit and never call us a again.

I'm in manufacturing, engineering manager.
I don't get a lot of overt rudeness, but i do have a lot of frustrating interactions with idiots, usually customer "engineers" with no practical experience. At one point we had a Chief Information Officer, Assistant VP of the University that had his Phd and looked down upon everyone without a phd. Very snooty personality. He retired about 6 or 7 years ago. I retired last year. I now live on a lake where as one can assume, is a higher income level area. I stop by our local hole in the wall area restaurant late one Friday afternoon with the wife for lunch and low and behold, there are 2 of my former coworkers, the retired CIO and the retired Provost. Of course struck up a conversation with the old coworkers and found out one of them also lives here on the lake, as does the Provost. He’s around the corner from me. Had a great conversation with everyone but the retired CIO. Didn’t speak a word to me. Still as snooty as ever and I’m sure he remembers me because I’m the kind of guy that you never forget once you meet me. |

Guessing the wife called you because she didn’t trust the husband to do the job or previously botched it. The husband was just all butthurt and resented the fact you were there to emasculate him.
