Basmati rice w/ Saffron, served with onion ground beef

Let saffron soak in a little dish with 1 ounce water (DO NOT THROW OUT THIS WATER)

Wash and strain rice

Boil until grains are full size in extra water

Strain water

Put olive oil on bottom of pot

Drizzle the saffron soaked water over rice

Close lid to keep most steam

Cook medium-low heat until bottom is crunchy

Serve with onion-beef and fresh mint

Used to go to a place called Addis Ababa in DC years ago, it was tasty food and they had a mead-like honey wine that was great, we used to go to a couple of really good Moroccan places there too but I can't remember the names of any of them.

There used to be a Swiss restaurant up in Warren that was incredible, but I'm pretty sure they went out of business. They had better schnitzel than a lot of places places I ate at in Germany and the deserts were seriously dangerous because after you tried any of them you wanted all of them because they were just that damn good.

Shawarma   -    Middle Eastern Food of Awesomeness

Peka  -    Croatian Stew of Awesomeness

ETA - I've been to a lot of places, but have NEVER eaten so well for the $$ as Croatia, especially on the coast. There's a huge Italian influence. And labor is still cheap enough that they still make everything fresh in the restaurants - at least outside of the tourist areas.

Sushi. COOKED sushi. I can't recommend raw sushi, as there's a risk of food poisoning. (Proper raw sushi is frozen to kill bacteria but I still don't trust it.)
