I seriously doubt that Redford was an overt, flaming communist back then in those days. That's way back before the American communist movement when journalists came out of the closet and became activist/propagandist/editorialist communist idealogues with communist agendas to promote like they do toady. This American communist movement became active a little over 20 years ago. Prior to that time you did not see these domestic communists openly promoting their communist BS. Even CNN reported the news without any of this communist editorializing and propaganda BS they promote these days. If Redford said half of the BS he spews today he would never have gotten that role to play Jeremiah Johnson back then.
