Not looking for competition gun, nor a compact gun. I'm looking for a full sized SAO pistol to both carry and shoot at events.
Staccato? Sig Legion? CZ is out because I hate the slide. I plan on getting an RMR with it as well. I was thinking Legion but I forgot about Stacattos and I've never shot a Stacatto. Any other ones you would be looking at besides those two? |

Quoted: CZ is out because I hate the slide. View Quote Lol I was about to recommend a CZ when I read the thread title. What about the slide do you not like out of curiosity? IMHO Sig has lost their way. Instead of just producing things like the P220/226/229 in a few different calibers, maybe some SAOs to go with the DA/SAs, and maybe a few DAKs, maybe with a few different barrel lengths; they make the PXXX rainbow unicorn edition, or the superManBearPig edition that costs an extra $400 and gets you into some stupid club. I don't think their SAO triggers are all that great either. Given your criteria I'd look at one of the Dan Wesson 1911s. You didn't mention a specific caliber, but if it's 9mm/10mm/.45 they make it. |

CZ.
The slide size is not an issue if you’re not the kinda fella who needs help opening a pickle jar. |

It's just so small I always grab frame. I have to think about it to rack it. Inb4 you won't be using it in a holster Inb4 if it runs dry use slide release I know. I just don't care for it. |

My Sig 226RX SAO has the best SAO trigger I've ever felt on a non-1911. It's better than the Legion. I probably just got lucky.

I do Cola, APC and 2 gun. I'm regularly right around the middle of the pack. Carry wise, I've always carried full sized pistols as pistols are already a compromise. I started carrying a 1911 from 21 until about 30- something but realized why not have over twice the capacity with a double stack. Then I shot some SAO double stacks (obviously loved them) and realized my entire life is a lie I need a full sized SAO pistol. |

I've probably shot my Staccato more than all my other guns combined since I got it. The thing is stupid smooth.

You said you plan on RMR but all sorts of guns are being mentioned that have no optic cut. Sure, you can cut about anything but it's kind of a hassle, gotta refinish it and can get pricey.
I agree on CZ. They're great guns and I've had a few but just don't like em either. Although I shoot Glocks, I spent a few years shooting 2011's. I had almost every model of the 2020 Staccatos and they are kind of like the Glock of 2011's. Just solid overall. CS has improved greatly. Slap an RMR on and go. Get a P duo |

View Quote I was looking for something like you're seeking - in the mid 1980's. The solution wasn't that good as double stack 45's in 1911s tend to be a bit rough. It was a lot of money and work but I recently took that same Para P14, converted to 45 super, accurized, plenty of metal work, file work, beavertail safety. When it was running accurate and perfect, I took it apart, cleaned it extensively and sent it to Ron Mahovsky. Electroless nickel base on the frame, then hard chrome over the top. Black titanium on the slide (not by Ron). The drop in trigger/commander hammer set was fully broken in before the electroless nickel (on the internal parts) and it works like a dream. Very clean. I know you're not looking to build. I don't know if there is some doublestack 1911 (or later) that's better finished out of the box or not. I've heard the RIAs can be kind of rough to begin with like my Para originally was. Also, it takes a big paw to tolerate a 1911 doublestack. It feels right to me but 2XL hands, so.. I then did quite a bit of custom work on a S&W 625 as a companion gun. But I digress, obviously. Maybe a custom from a trusted name? Just a thought. |

A guy at APC let me shoot his X6 from Germany I was hitting steel at 100 no problem first mag. I had not shot pistol at 100yds before that day and could not hit it with a mag from my G17. Of course with training sure it's possible but I'm fine with my G17 for defensive use within real life pistol distances. I guess I want it all and I feel a quality double stack SAO will do that. |
