All the girls played hopscotch. I tried explaining it to my granddaughter but she just rolled her eyes.

All the grandkids giggled when I was teaching them how to play badminton and I said shuttlecock, they grow up too fast and too twisted these days.

They sure did.  I remember playing tetherball, shuffleboard, horseshoes and smear the queer in the 80s.  Good times!  I also remember square dancing at PE.

Growing up, I had a neighbor who set up horseshoe pits next to their swimming pool.  When they had pool parties in the summer, we would always play a few games.  I got pretty good at horseshoes too!

I'll go with horseshoes also.

My dad loved horseshoes. He died in 1986.

As the patriarch of the family now I was asked what dad would have thought
about playing corn hole as the new game at family gatherings.

I told them he would have said...

" Corn hole seems like a game fags would play"
" What the f..ck is wrong with you pussies?"
"You can't throw a couple pounds of steel a few feet?"
"Are you afraid to get your hands dirty?"
"Bean bags is something your mother would let you play with
so you didn't hurt yourself"

My daughter bought trophy's to celebrate Eddie's annual whatever game.

We settled on "Grandpa Eds throw shit for accuracy awards"

This family knows how to compromise.

I remember as a kid, most all my country relatives had permanent horseshoe pits set up.

I don't see many anymore.

Shooting in general, when I first began shooting there were lots of people my age at the range but there is less and less of the newer generation at the range anymore. Could be I am in commie land (Oregon).

Cribbage played with my grandparents in the one room log cabin during deer season. I don't know anyone that even knows cribbage these days.

How about Badmitten? Once a common backyard past time.

ETA. Of Badmitten: in college decades ago Badmitten was offered: 3 days a week for an hour was good physical diversion from books. Prof teaching the class stated anyone that beat him got an A in the class, and never had to show up again. One fellow bested the instructor on the first day. Never saw the kid after that. I played the instructor once: lost by one point.

Paintballing also appears to have died down. They shut all local fields down years ago. Now hobos camp at two of them.

Smear the queer!...

I remember the name not being allowed. Pretty sure everyone knew what a queer was and no one EVER wanted to be queer. I can see how some might be offended.

We played hide and seek at night as kids. In front yards. In our culdesac. Of about 20 houses.

Good God.  I think I can still sing the whole jingle from that commercial (It got a lot of air time).
