And we should be concerned for people who drink in.
Change my mind. |

If enjoying a Tom Collins in the shade on a hot summer day is wrong I don't want to be right.

Quoted: No thats vodka. View Quote My experience as well. I say, gin is especially hard on your liver - vodka, your family. The real, real hardcore alky will choose rum - compared to vodka it is harder to identify on your breath (tho it's still pretty obvious when someone's been over imbibing on any type of booze) "That? Oh, that's my aftershave you're smelling." Ref: years of bartending |

Why you no like getting drunk on Christmas trees? Lol, gin was the first hard liquor I ever had. Parents used to drink gin & squirt all the time.

I'm not saying every gin drinker is an alcoholic, but every alcoholic I know has been a gin drinker.

CORRECT
Of all the standard alcohols, gin tastes the worst. I’ve had decent vodka, rum, etc. Never had a decent tasting gin. |
|
Gin exists because it was the easiest method to hide the flavor of poorly distilled alcohol.
Juniper gets rid of the smell/taste of vinegar perfectly. |

If gin makes you grin, and whiskey makes you frisky, what makes you pregnant?
Two highballs and a Squirt. |

Ya’ll have never had malort, have you?
Im not a huge gin fan, but a gin and tonic made with watershed gin and a slice or two of cucumber is one of the most refreshing cocktails I have ever had! |
|
OP has never had good gin. OP, if you find yourself in Holland, the home of gin, try a guided gin tour, you will taste some amazing stuff that is a world of difference from what we get here.

An extremely dry Bombay Sapphire martini is a just reward after a brutal week. We use pickled jalapenos as garnish versus olives. Addictive, but civilized.
|

You should try some, get up the courage to use a public toilet.
The rest of us may enjoy the refreshment of a G&T. |

Christmas Eve 2022, Dad.made martinis, which I had never had one.
"Brisk, son, do you want your martini dirty?" "Sure." "Good man, that's my son." I drank it. Every sip but the first was out of politeness. I tried one in October at a technical conference. Still awful. I like olives and onions and everything else that goes in a martini. Not the gin. |
|
Bombay Sapphire and tonic with a couple of limes is one of my go to drinks
The first one has a little bite to it but after that they start to taste good I rarely get hungover if I stick with those |

Good gin is great in a well mixed cocktail. I'm a big fan of Hendricks, 7 Brothers, and Western Reserve Distillers Gin. There's a lot craft distilleries making really nice small batch gins. No "vodka martini" () can stand up to a proper gin martini made with a quality/fresh vermouth.
Most bad burbons and bad vodkas and crap rums are still at least drinkable with the right mixers/cocktails. But gin has to be on point. It's a lot like Scotch Whisky. Shit gin is just plain awful and nothing's going to redeem it. Even some well regard gins are pretty abrasive. But a truly good gin is something special. |

Quoted: If enjoying a Tom Collins in the shade on a hot summer day is wrong I don't want to be right. View Quote I searched for Tom Collins mixer for a week in vain here. Small town. Gave up and began making them from scratch. Easy, though good simple syrup is pricey. Yes, I know you can make your own SS, too, but damn...at that point I'm just going to enjoy a G&T. |

I used to agree whole heartedly until I tried it mixed in equal parts with fresh squeezed lime juice, green chartreuse and marichino liquor shaken for 25 seconds. A now favorite cocktail with a lot or booze you can't even taste.

Hendricks Neptunia, Fever Tree Elderflower tonic, lime, ice.
Delicious. |

It’s trash. It’s basically vodka soaked in cedar tree berries.

My buddy use to serve people who he didn't shots of isopropyl and tell them it was cheap vodka. No body ever knew the difference.

Finish mowing the lawn then go sit out on the patio smelling the fresh grass and admiring your cut-lines while drinking a chilled pint glass full of tom collins. Doesn't get much better. |

I was in chicago a few years back and we went to an “famous” Irish bar/pub, the name of which escapes me.
They had a malort special. $5 shot with the purchase of any beer. So I said when in rome……. Ooooooooof! Swore I would never touch the shit again. A couple nights later, back in the same bar, my buddies’ sister joined us with her hot friend. She wanted to try it, so as a true gentleman, I could not let her suffer alone. So one and done turned into two and done! |

The Bond 007 Martini at McGuire's changed my mind on gin for good. One of the best cocktails I ever tasted.

It's also easy enough to test. Put a juniper sprig in some pickles. |

Good gin is great, bad gin is god awful. I think it has the most disparity between bad and good of any distilled spirit.

Quoted: Change my mind. View Quote I can't. I tried gin years ago. I don't recall the brand, but it smelled of cologne and tasted like how I assume cologne would taste. Haven't tried any since. |

False…gin takes balance. People add too much sugar to gin drink. General rule…light on the sugar and heavier on the citrus.
Tom Collins is one of my favorite. Gin also pairs well with most cold tea drinks. |

Straight Gin not so good.
