Holy shit. Including a 14 on one hole. That’s like me getting out there and hacking up the course. Embarrassing!

How the hell did he shoot 14 on one hole?

But +20 that sounds like my brothers and I chasing the beer girl.

It included a 2 stroke penalty for playing the wrong ball. At a major. Dude must have drank HARD last night.

Absolutely Gawdawful weather. The Open should be played in the Fall or early winter. The weather would be better...

Roy: My whole career, my whole life on the line...I just made a 12 on the last hole of the Open!

Molly: You sure did. It was the greatest 12 of all time. No one's going to remember the Open 10 years from now, who won...but they'll remember your 12! My, God, Roy, it was...Well, it's immortal! I am so proud of you!

Wow... that's rough. I certainly shot some high scores, but would generally take a drop after losing enough balls in the water. One time my brother and I ended-up wading around in the pond to recover some balls because we were all out.

Mickelson and Tiger sucked as bad as Rory. Tiger looked like he wanted to check out. Really bad body language. As if he looked injured. Walking around gingerly and not swinging full force on shots.

The last time I played I stopped keeping score after the 5th hole as I reached my self imposed 100 stroke limit.

Yeah, you can go from making some money on the Web.com tour to spending money trying to stay on the PGA tour. You’ve got guys driving around to tournaments and sleeping in their cars because they can afford to stay in a hotel.

Duval isn’t a regular on the tour anymore. He’s an announcer and not my favorite at that. I think he’s playing because he won this many years ago.

For you or me?  No.   For a pro, it’s bad.  Even when I was a single digit handicap, pretty descent, a + 20 on that course, from those tee boxes would have been a lifetime achievement.

Except you wouldn't have birdied the first two.

What happen next was that he fell apart on hole 5 by playing it wrong. He got an 8 there, then bogeyed the next.
Then on 7, he lost two of his tee shots in the rough. A MARSHALL announced that THE MARSHALL had found Duval's ball. It was a titleist 2, just like Duvall was playing. After he played the hole with the wrong ball, and it was discovered, he had to replay the hole. So after playing the first two holes at 2 under, he arrived at the 8 tee box 12 over.

He wasn't all that embarrassed. He took more of a "I should have checked the ball more closely for my yellow mark. I'll be back tomorrow."

I'd golf with the dude, and I'd learn a few things. Seems like a decent guy, and a great player. Things happen.

I play golf better with a baseball bat. It is just one step above watching grass grow in slow motion. Watching a gerbil eat grass is more exciting.

Thanks for the clarification. I’ve only ever swung a golf club once in my life, and it was at someone. It was also their club, too.

Do any of you goons even know David Duval's story?  He's a former #1 in the world and won the British Open in 2001.  He's been able to play in The Open year after year even though he rarely plays.  He dealt with a lot of health issues and personal problems over the years which is why his game went down hill so fast.

When you don't play at all anymore you're going to shoot a pretty high score especially when you're playing in a major event.

I bet he's just happy to be out there.

That’s why winning a major is such a big deal. You win and you can play in that major for 10 years, no qualification needed...just show up. I think you get exemptions to the other majors as well.
