It was 1975,  I was 12 years old. Dad didn't like the Japanese, so I got an Indian.

Thanks Dad!

What was your first motorcycle?

1975 was the year I was born, still waiting for my first motorcycle.

Cool pic.

I quickly outgrew the Indian and convinced Dad the Japanese were no longer a threat...traded for a red 1978 Yamaha DT175.

In hindsight,  I never should have sold the Indian.

The Yamaha ended up getting stolen from our driveway...but that's another crazy story.

I saw one of those in a tourist shop on route 66 in Seligman AZ a couple of years ago, I had a pre-ban 1976 suzuki ap50 that'd do about 53mph with my chin on the tank, this was in 1978

A sears Golden Pinto, then a 71 Honda Minitrail. Had a fun little CRF50 in my teens.

Bought a DRZ later in life, but have since sold it. Still have my 2 first minibikes though

MX100 Yamaha. Really wanted an Elsinore, but couldn’t swing it for the first bike. After dirt bikes came a ‘74 Honda CB550-4 and many since then.

A '8X GS400A, in 98.

Yeah, A meant automatic.  Riding it home that first time consisted of my gear being a field jacket.  Bent handlebars.

Yamaha Y-Zinger, I was about 5.

I've been through a lot of motorcycles since then. Currently have a CRF450r, CRF250r and a CRF250x in the garage, I love riding with my boys.

My first bike was a 1973 Honda CB 350 four...pretty rare...Honda only made them for 2 years. I worked all summer saving up my money for that bike...got it in the Spring of my Senior Year in High School. Took me a while to find a bike I could afford...it was a very smooth bike...it had both side stand and a center stand and a kick starter in case the battery was too low for the electric starter to work.

Bought a new Yamaha Big Bear Scrambler like this in July 1965 from working at the Chinese Restaurant next door to the Yamaha dealership.

Before the day I bought it, I had never ridden a motorcycle.
I can still remember how I felt then riding home on it,
and today, 57 years later, I still feel the same way.

I have also had a DT175 stolen.
I have also owned a CL360 1974 vintage.
I also currently own an XL100 basket case I'd like to restore someday.
Still have a CT90 too.
No longer have a Y80-Scamp.
No longer have a HawkGT650.
No longer have a Z50.

70s bikes were fun and heavy.

When the Yamaha DT175 was stolen, Dad put the insurance money on a 1980 Yamaha SR250.

My brother ended up taking the 250 off to college with him.  I had my drivers license by then, and my riding days came to an abrupt end.

Life was now all about girls, cars, rock and roll.  The 80's had arrived.

I always wanted a Harley. Mainly because my brother rode Harleys. In 1986 he bought a brand new one and as he was leaving the dealership with it just as a drunk was going the wrong way on the highway and hit my brother head on. He was killed instantly. The drunk left the scene and was never caught.

I still want a bike and every now and again I look but don't think I'd ever buy one.

First cycle I ever owned was an 80cc (or 100, I can't recall)
Honda dirt bike I bought from a neighbor down the street
when I got out of high school.

First motorcycle I learned to ride was a Chaparral Bullet ST80
I borrowed from my cousin while I spent the summer on an
Ohio farm.

It was in a little better shape than this image:

My first bike, believe it or not, was a ‘74 CR250 Elsinore I bought in 76. I really didn’t know what I was buying I just knew I wanted a “pure dirt” bike. I think I spent my first day trying to get it moving without stalling it. Every time I got off that bike after a ride, my hands would be shaking.

My first bike was a Suzuki 80.  This was around 1968-69 or so.  I didn't have my DL yet and it wasn't registered so I just rode it around the property.  Looked like this only it was black.

My first real bike was a Honda 305 Superhawk.  It had matchstick megaphones and man that thing sounded sweet.

I was 7, 1978…….Rupp mini bike.

Then the RM80, RM125, Bultaco 250, CR250, CR500. Raced motocross as a kid on weekends. Rode my dad’s Harley, and Vulcan all over too.

First street bike of my own in college, CBR900RR Fireblade. Then Thunderaces and R6’s and a bunch of R1’s (I have three R1’s in the garage). Did some sport bike racing. Tons of track days. Canyon carving every weekend.

Also have a Husky 510 SMR. And a DRZ400. A Honda Metropolitan. A ridiculous 12hp mini bike.

Coming up on 51, I have a garage full of bikes, I canyon carve every weekend, hit the track when I can, ride year round (even in snow).

Looking to pick up a Streetfighter V4S.

I love to ride. It’s not a hobby. It’s a way of life.

First bike was a 2006 zx-6r 636cc. Got it in 2008 and put a crap ton of miles on it, especially when I was living out in California.
