Sure, his name is known to people who are fans of that sort of thing.

What percent of the public do you think could tell you his name?

I would bet that if you called 1000 phone numbers at random in the USA and asked, less than 1% would know his name.

It's just not the type of information that the general public would find important enough to remember.

Big testament to the improvements in safety gear. When Austin Dillon wrecked from the bottom of the track over a couple lanes of cars into the catch fence at Daytona a couple years back I was amazed he walked away from that.

I know the names of several drivers, and Dennis is one of the top guys. I've been into Monster Trucks ever since Bob Chandler starting building Bigfoot.

Here's Dennis in 2008, talking with the Speed Channel girls.

A few more pics I took, from some of his runs;

2011. On this jump, he landed with the nose pointing straight up.

How did I know there would be at least one, "I'm trying to be edgy but instead I'm a bitter old vagina" post in here?

Kids love this stuff. Take a kid to a Monster Jam event and look beyond your small, sad world and you'll see that just because you're not into it dpesn't mean it's "stupid games."

GTFO. You're just bitter because you know that if it happened to you there likely wouldn't be much of a ripple at all.

Anderson is one tough cookie
seen him take much more abuse then that but again many of "didn't look that bad" have taken lives just as well

if you "have no idea" who Anderson is
he is one of the original monster truck drivers
guy puts on one hell of a show no matter what it costs him

real nice guy when he isnt turned up to 11 and putting on a show

I was never into it.   But my son and his friends were.  So we went.   The kids had a fantastic time, and I had a pretty good time.   We got to meet most of the drivers and get close to the trucks.   I must say that everyone that I met (drivers) were really cool.   It appeared that they really did enjoy meeting the fans.

Been a follower since his early mud boggin days of the late 70s and early 80s.

He's pretty much the regular man's equivalent of Bob Chandler and Bigfoot.

I've got friend who owns a different truck. Says he's doing alright, he was already planning on retiring this year and letting his son take over I'm sure this cemented that decision.

Dennis is old school he didn't like being jammed into the modern safety gear so that may have played a part too.
View Quote

That might be a big part of the issue. If he had the shoulder harnesses loose when the truck landed upside down he would have moved quite a bit inside that harness and ended up with broken collar bones when he stopped moving.

Hope he recovers, that hit didn't look that bad (from other hits and things those trucks do). Something must have broken in his harness, or been broken from one of the previous jumps. The body work is sacrificial it's meant to tear off.

I can name only two of the trucks currently in Monster Truck whatever they call it, because they've been around practically since Monster Trucks became a thing.

Big Foot and Grave Digger

I can name only one driver, the one guy who's practically been a Monster Truck driver since it became an occupation.

Dennis Anderson.

Hope he gets well soon.

They all make their entrance (I took this video last month);

Then they do racing (I took this in 2011. Ignore poor quality);

Lastly they do free style, one at a time (I took this in 2007).

If you google the term "monster truck" and click on images, Grave Digger is one of the top results. I would wager the same number of people (and type ) who knew who Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt were know of Bob Chandler and Dennis Anderson.
