Do you think this is a deep enough grave for a smallish guinea pig? My daughter is really concerned of coyotes digging her up.
Standard sharpshooter shovel for reference. Damn it's hot! Should have tossed this rodent in the trash and call it a day! Attached File |

Go a bit deeper, or consign it to the Herby Curby. But seeing as how a daughter is involved, enjoy your digging.

skunks, coons, foxes, coyotes can smell pretty deep and dig pretty deep
some big rocks should keep them out |
|
Toss pig in trash. Tie empty shoe box closed. Bury empty shoe box in shallow grave for daughter. Emotional ceremony. Tears.gif. happy daughter saved manual labor. Win/win.

Is it bad that my first thought when seeing the picture was damn it looks easy to dig in TX! Here you'd already be into bedrock at that depth. I had to use an excavator to plant 3 "medium" sized trees for my wife just a couple weeks ago .... not to mention that we literally live in the middle of the woods, so if there's one thing we need, it's more trees.
ETA - sorry ... to thread topic ... 6 feet, I thought everything had to be buried at 6 feet ? |

Didn't think about using a post hole digger, thanks guys. I will finish with that. Off to digging I go!

|
I've buried a bunch of them in backyard, never went more than a foot and not had any problems

Give it a really good stomping before you put it in the hole
Stomping flat helps to spread it out in the bottom of the hole. Sorry for your daughters loss. |

Thanks guys, the post hole digger made short work of the additional 2 feet! Can't believe I didn't think of that.
I will post pics after the ceremony and once she is buried! It's all about my daughter at this point! |

My last dog got 3 ft. of dirt on her but she was special.
Dug the grave first, then went to the vet. |

I went that deep then I put a paver over the soft dirt. Never had a problem and we’ve had half a dozen over the years. No more though.

I buried mine several feet down in a piece of pvc pipe with his cedar shavings and a carrot in with him. When he gets dug up in several hundred years hopefully he will be mummified and the archeologists will wonder why such a small creature was so important to rate a pharaoh's burial.
