Modernizing the G3 Let the hate flow!! (Title edit. -40xb) |

Stock may be ugly but it feels great especially for using optics.

My Century Arms C308 has been pretty good.
I think I paid about $600 a few years ago for it. No complaints from me. |

While I own and enjoy my FAL and G3, they are not what I'd grab first. The AR10 is an old battle rifle design that I can still get on board with. Both the AR15 and AR10 just seem to be winning.

A folding Sig 550 stock on the G3 would have been awesome. Attached File

I think he’s right but the G3 will never be as sexy as the FAL and that’s all that matters. The AR10, Scar etc. surpass the G3 and other 2nd gen battle rifles so modernization of older stuff is more of a convenience from a logistics standpoint.

Naw... if it's not all about nostalgia and fun, there are too many better guns than the G3 design these days.
And while PTR makes a decent clone for recreational use, I wouldn't want to go to war with one over an actual HK built gun. |

G3 does modernize better then the FAL simply because Sweden still uses the G3, which prompted Sphur to develop an upgrade kit for it.

He's right, if only in that the G3 platform was hands down the most modular platform, until about a decade or so ago when modular AR handguard tubes came into fashion. As far as parts commonality between diverse weapons, it still beats the AR handily, since so many are shared between MP5 subgun to HK21 beltfed. B&T & Spuhr have made a ton of upgrade parts for various roller-lock platforms, keeping an aging, 'outdated' platform current with modern standards & practices. Before them, Surefire did the same.
People complaining about thumbs are being goofy; you shift your grip *slightly* to work the selector, and therefore don't have to worry about bumping into it while shooting. You also don't have to awkwardly swing the lever a whole 180 degrees in doing so, either. Charging handle is undeniably among the best executions (the AR's really isn't very good, but there is a legitimate argument that it doesn't really impede usage much in practice, either). Anything the AR does to be 'modern' the G3 platform can do, with the exception of weighing less through use of aluminum & compact barrel extensions. It can get much smaller, though. So really it just comes down to weight, and if you're comparing the 308 platforms specifically, that is arguably a good thing (see also the Galil, and how its performance as a 308 is improved by being a bit chunkier than it could be) If comparing 5.56 or especially 9mm, then yeah, the HK is big & hefty for what it is, but at that point the CETME L series is a better comparison anyway (if the AR10 had been reworked into a 5.56 without shrinking anything it would also seem awkwardly large for what it's doing) |

Quoted: Christ he sounds just like Doug Demuro View Quote I agree he needs to work on returning to a more monotone voice like he used to use. I think he is trying too hard to sound 'captivating' and ends up being a bit cartoonish at times. He's best when discussing gun stuff in a flat NPR/Bob Ross type tone. And the posters who find that irritating can go back to their heavy-metal-blaring, loud-mouthed neckbeard channels. |

i think "gun jesus "is a leftist homo and has no idea about modern fighting guns and how they should be used

I'm not sure how to describe that breaking voice, but I've noticed it amongst the "nerdy cool" guys recently. It's almost like vocal fry with certain female groups. I'm a big fan of Ian, so I'll cut him some slack. Demuro can disappear immediately. |

View Quote Better than what? A trap door, Krag...? ETA after watching the intro, and defining successful between the G3 and FAL, how many of each rifle was actually used in combat? In the Falklands, you had both sides using FAL's. |

Women do the raised lilt at the end of phrases so their fry isn't completely monotone for the same reason. Ian's issue is that what he's saying is usually interesting enough that vocal parlor tricks aren't needed to keep listeners focused, so they just seem annoying. |

I do like my Scout Squad M1A . Much better irons . Minute of torso accuracy out to 500m. That's as far as I've shot my Scout Squad. Wonder how it would look and handle in the stock set up. |

This, I thought this was the point of his video. Of course GD goes full retard comparing it to an AR10 I'd argue it also handily beats the /other/ contemporary, the 308 AK variants, in modernization. Really, it was the only battle rifle with decent futureproofness (not a real word) and that was due to the highly modular design unique to the platform. |
