What firearms that are or have been available were truly ahead of their time?
My submission. The AUG. It’s still relevant. Easy to handle. Use of polymers that were definitely not normal. Literally the FCG is entirely polymer EXCEPT the springs. What else is worthy to be considered ahead of it’s time? |

Mg-42. Still hard to beat today. The MG3 is still going strong.

Glock.
I don't really care them but must admit they changed the world and how folks look at handguns. Those guns were trendsetters. Also the AR15/M16. |

Phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.
Still ahead of its time. |

The Sten was quite unique and the first to focus on non milled parts - cheap stampings etc ?

Hipoint 9mm
Made from garbage, for pennies, budget engineering. Not a gun specifically, but what psa has done to the ar. Bringing prices down to the point nobody has an excuse not to be armed with a solid basic rifle. That's thinking that should be business school material. |

FG-42
(Semi) bullpup in the '40s. Effective muzzle compensator that resembles some high-end devices today. "Flip-up" sights.(Though, it was intended for stowage purposes) Low, fixed-power optic.(Think ACOG) |

Johannes Paulys breechloader. Napoleon liked it but told him he was ahead of his time. Later on it lead to the Dreyse needle gun.

It changed the entire game as far as handguns were concerned. |

The german P38, it was made with a decocker, loaded chamber indicator, and replacable sights for easy swap out. first gun to have all the things modern guns now have
|
|
The AR15. We are STILL modifying the platform to unique use cases

Ar15/m16
May have had issues out the gate but I remember Vietnam Vet's complaining about a lightweight plastic gun with varmint rounds getting issued and this was guys I met in the 90s. |

Dardick Pistol. This gun was so far ahead of its time it ended up going back in time.
