Why on Earth do people do stuff like this? What possesses a person to point a real firearm at their head/body and pull the trigger in jest?  I don't even like looking down the barrel of a gun when it's removed from the gun for cleaning, because of the danger it represents.

It truly boggles my mind that an otherwise rational human being can be so dysfunctional. This guy was a hunter, someone who had seen first hand the damage a rifle can do.

DO NOT POINT A GUN AT ANYTHING YOU DO NOT WANT TO DESTROY.

That's going to be tough to face up to.

I'm sure he's embarrassed.  He probably wont want to show his face around town for a while.

But he'll have to face the music eventually.

Because - those ARENT the rules.

Those are the kind of rules that get people killed.  Is that the kind of shit they are teaching now?

Keeping your gun unloaded is a stupid rule, and it is the kind of shit that causes "I thought it was unloaded" accidents.

1.  All guns are always loaded.

2.  Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and ready to fire.

3.  Never point your muzzle at something you are not willing to destroy.

4.  Be sure of your target, and what is behind it.

Those are the rules.

Every gun in my safe is unloaded, and I know they are unloaded, but I still check to see if a bullet sneaked it way into the gun somehow when I pull one out.

So he shot himself in front of witnesses, then lied about it.  That's pretty cheeky of him.

Good thing the cops had a nose for liars.

Depends on how much booze.  Having a drink or two, I really don't care.  I drink beer in the garage and work on stuff all the time.

Bunch a friends over and people getting wasted?.... yeah, no place for firearms there.

I think he's a hero.  He managed to do it with an unloaded rifle.  Just imagine what he could have done with a loaded one.

There's no such thing as an unloaded rifle, or at least if you treat all rifles like they're loaded stupid shit like this doesn't happen.
