We let her out around 7am, and by 8:30 we realized after yelling for her multiple times that she was either hurt or off the property. My wife and I went out walking the property looking for her and we couldn’t find her anywhere. We decided to let out our other dog and he brought us out behind the shed. I had walked by there about a half hour earlier, but this time we smelled shit.

Low and behold we see this little hole in the ground and hear a whimper. Upon closer inspection there is my dog looking half dead. She had somehow backed herself into the outlet pipe. At this point I don’t know what the fuck to do, so we call the fire department and get their voicemail :(. We figure ok no answer there so let’s go grab the ladder and go down and get her. I can’t fit down the hole and get her, so my wife tries to slide the ladder right under the dog and kinda wedge it between the wall and the outside of the hole. The dog was weakened and terrified. We attempted to coax her up unsuccessfully.

I decided to hook my feet into the livestock fence and lower down head first into the tank. I couldn’t reach her, but I was able to get her to put her paw on the ladder. I then grabbed that paw and pulled her other paw out of the pipe. Finally I was able to get a grip on her and wrestle her up and out of the hole.

What a stressful morning! We think a cow stepped on the lid and flipped it in because a week ago a herd broke into our property.

Reminds if ever buy the crappy property adjacent to mine, ill yank old single wide and find the septic and back fill it. Ive seen vehicles put front wheel thru old tanks that were abandoned

Oxygen replacement or hydrogen sulfide would both kill you, and your dog.

Dog was alive down there for two hours I was fairly sure it was safe I did try calling the fire department and first

I know you got the dog out and cleaned up, but a trip to the vet is likely still warranted, watch for signs of infection, as that environment is rough on a immune system.

Go to vet and have blood work done. That adventure would be very rough on any living thing. Get the pooch checked out.

That could have ended very very badly for you and your pup. Septic/sewer system gas can kill pretty damn quick. Glad it worked out for you both.

Glad your dog is ok, pit or not.....

Why is there a hole large enough in the septic that would accept something that large?

I have an aerobic and there's no holes. My grandparents had a conventional septic with a concrete lid on the main hole , no openings.

I don't get it.
