The premise is that the white guy, Mr. ropart is a bald white male who wears glasses and is a bumbling boob, and the only person in the cartoon who can get him out of his screw ups is a mexican handyman who has common sense and knows how to use tools. discuss.

Oh man......don't get me going about this cartoon. It is telling young kids that the trades are reserved for Mexicans.

I loathe this show. It is not allowed in my home. My young kids are not allowed to watch it. Pure, pure, pure indoctrination.

My wife being mixed Chinese and Latina, is in her glory with Dora the Explorer and Ni Hao Kai-Lan... my son is already saying stuff in both Chinese and Spanish.. frankly I'm still waiting for "Stanislaw and his Polish Roofers" to hit Nickalodean so I can start him on Polish too.

There are a lot of good reasons for you and your children to understand Spanish. Handy Manny, Dora, and Diego are great ways to introduce young children to the Spanish language.

I am no fan of illegal aliens, and that was one of the major reasons I moved away from Atlanta. However, I wouldn't let that alone cloud my judgement that knowing a second language is important. If you're going to learn a second language on this continent it should be the most common one.

In short, I just think that the media is catering to a certain demographic. 12 million or so illegal ones... English is the primary language in this country, most people can't even speak it properly in the first place, let alone learn/speak a second language. I'm all for people learning a second language, I wish I had taken more initiative in high school to do so, but a person should at least know conversational English as a base line.

It's not a horror of learning a second language - it's the stupidity of millions of kids never learning the FIRST language well enough to be taken seriously.

The dumbest most inarticulate students in my classes are those who are "bilingual".

Yeah right - how the hell can you call yourself "bilingual" if you're virtually illiterate in ENGLISH.

Eh go ahead, teach kids Spanish and encourage them to speak Spanish in the home, on the bus, on the playground, in the mall - and then cry "racism" when I fail them in a college class and/or kick them out of an interview because they can't communicate in ENGLISH above an 8th grade level.

Personally, I don't have a problem with learning a second language- if that's your CHOICE.

I don't like having it rammed down my throat: Spanish language signs in practically every store, bilingual pamphlets and brochures and press 1 for English on the fucking telephone answering services, the least examples..

Last I checked, this country ws founded by ENGLISH speakers and English has beed the de facto ofiicail language since its inception, so yeah, I DO have a problem with programs that forced feed Spanish or ANY other language but English to my kids and grandkids and that includes Handy Manny and Dora the Explorer.

I like Handy Manny. I'm not bothered that gay (and caucasian) mr Lopart refuses to let anyone that knows more than him help and ends up screwed as a result. Besides, Kelly the hardware store chick is white business owner too, and always has what Manny needs (wink wink). My kids have outgrown Manny, though, so about the only non sports thing they watch is Phineas and Ferb (they don't like TV all that much anyway, which is fine by me).

And my kids will speak Spanish if I have to beat every word into their heads personally. Hell, I'd like it if they spoke Vietnamese as well (largest Asian demographic in this area). I really can't understand why anyone wouldn't want their kids to be multilingual.

Now if the Mexican was bumbling and a white Handyman came and fixed his problems, that would be a hit.

I only allow my children to watch non human characters, like Spongebob and certain parts of Star Wars Clone Wars, you know the parts without humans or clones, because both disgust me. I also do NOT allow the sound to be turned up on any TV in the house. This takes care of any foreign language, and you really don't need sound to watch porn.

And for T_N_O, I've heard the surplus ones are OK, but the tritium sources have been removed to comply with MoD specs. LED replacements are supposedly available, but not sure exactly from where.

They are a good optic, but they are heavy. Most are refurbed and in good shape.
