What got him?  Prostate cancer?  He was always joking about that.  Would be odd if it got him.

I used to listen to The Greaseman back when I was stationed at Andrews AFB, '88 - '91.

"Are you a lucid individual?"
"A shuddering shangri-la!!"

Bet we listed to a lot of the same shows in the morning.  I lived in Howard County MD from '88-'91.  That dude was the shit back in the day.

Stern did the Air Florida bit, that is what got him kicked of DC101 and he was replaced with Grease.

Damn, I grew up on the Eastern Shore of MD and Grease used to come down to Tilghman Island on the weekends.  My wife and I saw him at the Nations Gunshow at the Dulles Expo Center a few years ago and I got an autographed pic of him.  Really nice guy in person, we swapped lawman stories and talked about The Shore.

RIP Grease!

My Father and I used to shoot skeet with him once every blue moon out at National Capital Trap and Skeet Club. Watched him go 25-straight once with a 20-ga.  Good shooter and a helluva nice guy - he'll be missed.

I pretty much grew up on him when he was in Jacksonville, FL.
It was rather surreal when I was also stationed at Andrews in the early '90s and realized he was in DC.

How about singing to Ted Bundy on the day he fried?? Fry, fry Teddy, bye byeeeee...

I saw him at Hog Neck Arena in Easton, MD, years ago. Listened to him on DC101 when I was going through some really dark days in my life.

RIP bud, RIP.

Blowboaters.  I had a box full of cassette tapes I had made of his shows and took them with me when I went into the AF.  Everytime I came back to the Shore on leave I would call his show.

I'm thinking it's a publicity stunt too.  When the drivetime DJ was talking about it earlier, he didn't sound upset or anything like that; the way he talked about it made it sound like he wasn't serious.

Also, if he is faking it, he needs to be banned a la Justinwb.

Grease is/was a brilliant man, he would make up his bits as he went along with his show, no script or anything.  When my wife and I met him several years ago he was really down to earth.  Man I hope this is just a cruel joke or something.

This is from DC Radio and TV , a website devoted to the radio and tv happeninsg around DC and Baltimore

Grease Gone? - 9/23 - Smells like a publicity stunt to us. But a DCRTVer tells DCRTV: DC radio veteran "Grease is DEAD according to DC101. Roche just went on the air at 5:24 (PM) and announced it. UNBELIEVABLE. Words cannot express this fan's loss. To all the haters out there." Check out this video at youtube.com. "The Greaseman Remembered." And "Doug 'The Greaseman' Tracht... 1950-2008." Posted on 9/22. However, a Wikipedia entry, which was modified on 9/23, listed Tracht's mysterious demise as occurring on "September 23, 2008." However, at 6:36 PM (ET) the profile was modified again, and the death date was removed. Tracht (right) has been doing Saturday mornings on rocker DC101. He's worked at many DC area radio stations over the years, including as Howard Stern's replacement on DC101 in the 1980s. A DCRTVer tells us that he drove by Tracht's Potomac MD home this evening and everything looked "normal".....

But I did not see anything in the Post or local television news.
