Alright, not a shill, I paid retail for this
But, how about a light weight, very low profile bipod for AR type rifles that take up minimal rail space when not in use? Sound good? Yeah I thought so. Enter Heathen Systems with their Assaulter Bipod. Extended

Stowed 
Doesnt stow properly with the screw type SF mount, which is ok, I needed to get a low profile MLOK mount anyway. 
The pic mount is printed polymer, it also doubles as a barricade and hand stop if you so choose to use it as such. The legs themselves are also polymer with metal re-enforced male component. When installed to be used the legs just click into the right holes and away you go, they seem to have a decent amount of flex so that you can push slightly into the weapon. The length is fixed but seems to be an ok height, actual use will tell. When stowed the legs are kept very close to the rail and are very low profile with little extending past the rail itself to snag or catch on stuff, far cry from either a Harris or an Atlas. I intend to use my recce type rig this weekend out to 700 or so, this bipod will be tested against both Harris and Atlas folding bipods, I expect both of them them to outperform the Heathen in every category Except being light weight and low profile. However, if I can use the Heathen to engage targets to the max range of the recce then it will probably stay on that rifle. |

Seriously? Rubber bands to hold your bipod in a stowed position? No price or info on the website, but the video is worth a watch  (ignore the bipod in it)

That being said, its a small and lightweight alternative to a full Harris or Atlas type. Small and light being key words here. Time and use will determine how much I like this thing. |

If you’re using the rifle on a bipod, why does the bipod need to be lightweight? Harris and atlas bipods (and their functional clones) don’t weigh much...

why not tie a small balloon on the bottom of the rail, and then just pop it, when you're finished. costs like .03 cents, plus a few puffs of air.
