ETA: @WitchDoc  Maybe add a retractable ball detent (like a qd sling swivel) to the mount holes so there's less chance of dropping the sticks when they're mounted.

Actually...

If the little mount piece weighs nothing, and the legs weigh nothing, and if the combo is strong, i could see it not being completely useless.  The product should stow in a little MOLLE pouch in place of the rubber bands on the rifle.  Place the legs in the bipod in odd case when you need them.

Keep the pouch on your pouch or in the truck.

Witch doc, send me one, I’ll try it out and post an impartial review.

This guy will actually do an honest review of your bipod. We'll make fun of him and his review when he's done (as we're prone to do), but we won't question his fairness.

What about a tiny magnet?

I'm thinking a simple twist lock mechanism would work, since this isn't meant to be speedy.  If implemented correctly, it might even let them incorporate a simple pivot that wouldn't add significant weight to the mount.  It would probably cut way back on the ridicule.

Twist and pull to release leg, swing into position, push and twist to lock.  Rubber band ghetto factor eliminated.

Without rehashing other issues, I'll say that it has almost zero useful application if it doesn't tilt.

ETA: Or easily adjust for length.

I don't think they are still made, but Browning used to sell a nice lightweight bi-pod that still deployed like a Harris and had adjustable legs.

The mount attached to the stock, and the legs to the mount with a pin that you could easily remove if you didn't anticipate needing it, or just wanted a lower profile gun.

The QD design of the legs gave it some built in "slop" for aiming. Certainly not as strong as a Harris, but great for lightweight or hunting setups.

Someone just needs to come up with a rail-mounted version of this, maybe with a locking detent button so it doesn't get knocked off easily if you re-position.

Spring loaded, squeeze it til it snaps and stow it.  Pull it out, and snap it on your barrel (or rail).

This one's 6oz and under $9 on OpticsPlanet.

That's quite impressive.  OP's pics didn't really do it justice, it seems.

Already been done before. Stony point had a quick attach bipod that was lightweight, but they don't make them anymore.

I heard Ash Hess talking favorably about this, on the last P&S podcast.
You know, the guy who wrote TC 3-22.9.

As an amateur scientist, I would also like to make the same offer.

However, I will be using the assaulter bipods to eat sushi and then attempt to knit a sweater with them.

I will post my science notes for all to see, with almost zero bias.

You’re welcome.

No, if you look at the 3rd pic, there are stowage holes for the male end of the legs. The rubber bands are to keep the other end from getting caught or snagged on stuff. Not ideal but workable.
