The girlfriend wanted a full length mirror for the bedroom so I got a bigass mirror at Hobby Lobby for half off.

A couple of heavy duty soft-close drawer slides, some lumber, some faux leather, and a lot of cutting gave me this:

I left enough space for the cans going on each gun (currently on month 3 of however many).  I dig it.

My only criticism is covering up the electrical outlet. You couldn't have set it between any two other studs? Nice work otherwise.

That's pretty cool.  How much standoff from the wall is there?

It literally wouldn't have worked anywhere in the room without covering an outlet.  The previous owner built the house himself and he put a metric shit ton of outlets in the house.  The master bedroom has 9 total outlets and we've never needed the one behind the mirror so we're good.

The back of the mirror is a half inch from the wall.  Not enough to seem unusual.

The other side of the wall is a closet for one of the other bedrooms.

I would add a hidden button or magnetic release lock to open, so if someone touches it it will not move.

The pistol is mounted with a rubber coated neodingdongium magnet made for the purpose.

The rifle hanger is from verticalgunracks.com and is elegant in its simplicity.

As a cop who’s worked many home burglaries, I hide my guns in my gun safe when I’m not home.

In a burglary, a 16 yr old kid is going to rip every mirror and painting off the wall looking for dope hides or for this very thing.

Your idea is very james bond, but it’s not going to stop a burglar.

Thanks, Officer Obvious.

The idea wasn't to prevent theft, it was to have an AR easily accessible in the bedroom without it leaning in a corner.

I have a safe where everything goes if I'll be away for awhile.  My specific area is infinitely low risk for a home burglary and I'm saying that as someone who is more cautious than most having lived in several high crime areas.

I had something similar when my house was broken in to. Because the alarm was going off, they were in and out quick and didn't find my hidden stuff.

I thought about it but putting a lock on something that can be easily smashed seems pointless.

The soft-close slides take some effort to get moving so it doesn't move unless it's deliberate.

You really want to tie something like that up in police evidence? Shotgun with 00 is much easier to replace than a can. Don't forget it's not just the encounter you have to survive, it's the courts.

A guy I work with did the same thing.  He recessed the drawer glides into the wall.  Obviously you would need a larger mirror and a smaller opening to do this.  Doesn't seem necessary after seeing yours, nice work.

Criminals are assholes and “ransacking” isn’t just a term of phrase. Burglars don’t care about your house because it’s not theirs. They will tear everything out of your closet’s and flip your mattresses and yank paintings off the wall while trying to find hidden valuables.

Hell, I even saw one house get a bunch of holes kicked in the walls once by someone who was just trying to be a dick while burglarizing the home.

I've always wanted to put an AR behind the drywall. Super hidden and would make for a dramatic fight scene punching through the wall to pull it out.

I never thought of that.  I think I'll switch to a single-shot shotgun with birdshot for home defense just to be on the safe side.

If I have to use a tool to save the lives of my family, I consider it money well spent.  Even if it was 100k.

I want the most effective tool in the event I need to defend.

All dramatic fight scenes involve someone going through the drywall.  It's a requirement.

My bedroom gun is much more likely to be used for popping a coyote trying to get my chickens so that would get pretty laborious replacing drywall every time.

If you REALLY want to dial it up a notch.

Install a mini fridge in drywall.

So that way, you can punch through the wall and then have a 4loko, instead of vice versa!

If I broke into someone's house and they punched a hole in the wall, grabbed a 4loko, and immediately chugged it, I would call the cops. For my safety.
