Got an email yesterday confirming my order for $2400 worth of tools from Home Depot.  The problem is I did not order anything.  I called HD and informed them that this was a fraudulent order yet for some reason they were not able to stop the package from shipping out.  They contacted FedEx and informed them that the shipment is fraudulent however it is still on the way to my house.

What do?  Intercept Fed Ex truck and the theif that will be following it before he can steal the tools?

I've shut down my CC and will not be held responsible for the $2400 charge but it seems no one is able to send the package back to HD's warehouse.

-------

Package is out for delivery.

Found myself a hideyhole in the bushes.  Sitting on a cinder block with a clear view of the driveway getting my arms cut to ribbons.

Re-direct it to a secured FedEx location.  It will probably cost you a couple bucks but the thieves wont be able to get it.

Track and intercept the fedex, acquire all the packages?

Seriously it's not your fault, you did the correct thing, not your problem so let it ride.

By the time it takes effect he'll be out a couple bucks and thieves will get their goods, then he'll be liable since he diverted shipment and accepted liability.

If HD doesn’t care enough to do anything you take delivery of free tools. Maybe catch bad guy and hold him in dungeon or something.

With $2400 worth of new tools, you should be able to build a pretty spiffy one.

Confirmed with HD, American Express and Fed Ex.  It's a real shipment and not a phishing scam.

Somebody other than you is expecting to pick up that shipment. If you don't ordinarily carry, it's a good time to start.

Could you have fedex hold packages at the warehouse. So you can go pick up?

HD pretty much only carries chinese tools, so they are all made of chinese pot metal.  I wouldn't worry about it, you could plan to be home and refuse delivery when the fedex guy shows up but fedex lies so much you can never  tell when they'll show up.

What was the manner of payment for the order?  Do you have a contractor account at HD?  Did they charge a credit card?

FedEx will almost certainly require a signature for the delivery.

It's a common scam that they do with cell phone replacements too from Assurion. They track the package and wait until it gets delivered to your residence, then they steal it off the porch.

If you happen to pick it up before they get to it, they knock on your door and say that Fed Ex accidentally delivered it there and that they would like it back.

Lol

FedEx drops off my medication on my porch and leaves. Signature required, temperature controlled, $13,400 per package. And they lost the last one

Had 500rds of 00 buck delivered from Global Ordnance earlier this week. Signature Required. He knocked, asked my last name and placed on door mat. Didn’t sign, but he wasn’t leaving without verifying. Luckily I’m retired and home.

Is it shipping to your address?

Bet you already called Home Depot to return this and they are sending you a return label?   Yeah, thief already sent you a return label in hopes it beats the legit one to your door.  The first one is his address but who actually looks at the address on a return label?

Same thing happened to me with a Best Buy order.  Someone bought a laptop on my CC and it was shipping to my address.  That’s when I looked into this and discovered the scam angle.  I get the text alerts the second my card was used and immediately got shit cancel so nothing actually shipped.

Why do you care?
You didn't order it.
You let everyone know it's fraudulent.
Nothing more to do but verify CC doesn't hold you responsible (which I highly doubt they will).

Ammo, parts, meds, they do not care.

Once they left my rifle leaning against the garage door. I didn't get home until 3 hours later.

Home Depot must have been compromised.  My password is impossibly long and complex but I changed it and my CC online login password too.

Taking the day off today.  I want to see who actually shows up.  We're on a flag lot 1/4 mile from the road with total privacy from the neighbors so not the best house to use for this kind of scam.

ETA: They ordered 5x of these: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M18-FUEL-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-Cordless-1-2-in-Impact-Wrench-with-Friction-Ring-Kit-With-Two-5-0-Ah-Batteries-2767-22/302675438

In some of the scams I have seen, the scammers have someone literally camped out next to the victim's house.  When the FedEx truck rolls up, the scammer makes it seem like they are the homeowner and are given the packages (fake signature and all).  You could be inside your home and never get so much as a door knock from the FedEx guy.

That is what the computer scammers do.  They have people Fedex money to an address and have someone sitting in a car waiting for it.  The OP should sit at the entrance to his street and wait for the truck.

This isn't the first time I've heard of carriers claiming they can't stop a shipment.

If they're tracking the packages from drop-off, to loading it for delivery, to dropping it on your doorstep, why can't it be intercepted?

They just don't want to?
