Tonight on Coast to Coast AM George Noory interviews engineer Marshall Barnes about thwarting alien invasions, among other topics.

My first reaction is build the damn wall, but we'll see how it goes tonight on C2C.

i was about to say if they could make it to Earth more than likely we'd be fucked. but then i realized what the story was about.

it probably can't be stopped at this point. not saying we shouldn't try though.

You couldn't.

If they can travel in space in large numbers, never mind FTL then they have overwhelming advantages.

Centauri Bombardment of Narn Homeworld

That said theres also many, many good reasons why it wouldn't happen. As a matter of fact the only reason why an alien force might attack us is because they have some kind of fetish for spreading pain and suffering.

Humans are hostile and aggressive. Unless they are bombarding us from orbit, they are going to have a tough time. Even if they have technology to render most weapons inoperable, we still have knives, sticks, and rocks. We have been fucking each other up with sticks, rocks, and knives pretty effectively for the last 10k years. It's in our DNA. Sure, we may suffer casualties, but once humans learn how tight alien buttholes are and how good they taste with some melted butter and garlic, they are fucked!

We're doing a terrible job so far...finishing the wall would be huge and effective, which is why it won't be done.

I am not ashamed to love that movie. Or Battleship.

I haven't thought about C2C in a long time. A guy I used to work with would always listen to it, so of course that meant that sometimes I had to listen to it. Always entertaining.

Illegal aliens are easy. Just lynch a bunch of them and hope the Justice Department doesn't crucify you.

Space aliens you have no chance.

Inter dimensional aliens, well. You just try and stop them from laying eggs in your brain.

There's no practical reason for aliens to invade us.  Everything they need is available without conflict out in space.

If they can project force across light years and overcome all the biological differences that living on an alien world would entail then it's hard to see how we'd be much of a threat.
Much like the Builders in The Expanse, they'd just pave over us like we do anthills.
Unless you envision gimmicky FTLs that allow relatively low tech to cheaply transport armies, like china asshoe invading Taiwan.
Even then you need a reason. Part of the argument for alien civilizations is how common they are, implying lots of suitable planets to colonize without war.

If any aliens were able to get to earth, that would mean that they have figured out how to control space, time, gravity, magnetism and controlling those things would put them so far beyond us technologically that we would seem primitive.  Any race advanced enough to control those things could easily turn that power into weapons that would make our nuclear arsenals primitive.

The closest comparison I can think of would be that if aliens could control those four things, we would seem so primate that it would be like we would look at primitive humans before they had the skill to make chipped stone tips for their arrows or spears...the most they had was a sharpened stick.

That depends on how far they came.  It's very possible to reach the nearest stars with physics we already understand and ships we could conceivably build if we had access to the raw materials and had the money for it.  Not right now, but in a couple hundred years.  But if they were that close, we'd have detected them already.

Why would they bother to nuke us from space?  It's not like we can reach them and if they nuked the planet, there'd be nothing to gain from coming here at all.
