Do you want a dead horse carcass next to a popular trail? Or thousands of pieces of dead horse near a popular trail?

Well if the alternative is a chainsaw

Interesting, I've never really thought about a career with the U.S. Forestry Service until now.

packed poles and crap in on horses due to USFS land restrictions.

one of the horses got hurt and the outfitter had to put it down.

we came back the next morning and bears had eaten the damn horse.

Sure.  20 pounds of explosives is no problem, but how are we going to get the shoes off first?

A dead horse will draw unwanted grizzlies to a popular trail. Thousands of little bits will simply decompose.

Wait, why does op want a blow up horse?

Pretty easy actually. It should look like this when you're done.

I've heard it said that very few problems can't be solved with the proper application of high explosives.

More like thousands of little bits will be consumed by birds and everything else that eats meat.

Dam that’s savage.

My wife’s horse died from choking on grass. Well technically a .308 killed it but it was choking on grass.

Thankfully they knew some people with a farm and disposed of it.

Had this come up at work last year.  Customer’s horse fell down an abandoned hand dug well and died.

Blowing it up was brought up, but the customer wanted to rehab and use the well after. A crane was hired instead.

There was testing involved.

If 20 pounds was the agreed proper amount than there was probably some testing with much higher explosive weights.

Someone may have even been killed by a wayward horse shoe to get that footnote added.

If you can lever one end a bit loose with a large flat blade screwdriver, the rest comes off pretty simply.

https://www.usbr.gov/pn/hungryhorse/history/index.html

Hungry Horse Dam received its name from two freight horses (Tex and Jerry) working in the Flathead River's South Fork area. They wandered away from their logging sled during the severe winter of 1900-01.

After struggling for a month in deep snow, they were found so starved and weak that care and feeding were needed to nurse them back to health. Stunned loggers nicknamed the gaunt survivors the "Mighty Hungry Horses." Jerry later pulled a fire wagon in Kalispell and Tex did similar duty on a wagon for the Kalispell Mercantile Company.
