The fire danger in this area is very real so that's out. It is on a steep hillside behind the house.

In this time lapse vid you can see the pipes, about 5 seconds in my brother walks by them. There used to be a fence as part of a chicken coop there we have taken out so the hill is barren other than the pipes and flammable grass.

Actually, Car Exhaust would work better than almost anything mentioned. Figure out how to get it down there. CO will put them out.

Diesel or Gasoline?

Depends on the lair.

I had a cousin that had a den under an outbuilding/shed in his back yard. We pulled the building out of the way with a backhoe and shot snakes with a .22. A few made a feeble attempt at escape but it was cold and they were sluggish. Whacked them in the head with a stick or just shot them. Think there were something in the neighborhood of 30 snakes (it was a long time ago).

The owner of some land where I helped work goats a couple of times had a cave with at least a hundred snakes denned up not far from the house. Some herpitologists came from Texas A&M and did a relocation.

My cat got tagged a few weeks ago. You can get a snake stick and put them in a large trash can or lot of 00 buck

While not exactly something that the supporters of Earth Day would endorse, dumping gasoline down the hole followed by a lit match will make things lively, albeit briefly so.

I don’t know if you know that Goff-Off original formula is heavier than air and is an Oxgyen displacement; it also affects the central nervous system. It will put them asleep and suffocate them.

Home Depot sells it in gallon cans.

Throw a coffee can full of gas in. Wait a safe distance away with a .22 revolver full of rat shot.

This is the best idea so far, but I would use a .22 rifle since we are talking about a poisons snake.

I'd like to try a couple of cans of Great Stuff foam sealer sprayed in there. That nasty stuff is so sticky, it would surely glue them all into one big block of assholes.

I used to get paid money to remove venomous snakes. I worked for an exterminating company and got zero training. They just hand you a 5 foot snake stick and the bag. I got okay at it, but I am done with that. No more. 12 gauge with 00 buck or even bird shot. Snakes here blend in so well you don’t see them until you are close. My cat’s head was like a softball

These people saying gas... just NOPE

use diesel instead and light it... much less kaboom

Also use a weed sprayer to do it so you don't draw attention plus it lets you shoot it further...

Why are you guys advocating buck shot for snakes?

I generally leave snakes be, but if it came to it, a field load of 7.5's or 8's would fix any snake that crawls just dandy.  I'll take 350-400 pellets over 9 any day for this.

In B4 muzzle blast ignites gasoline fumes.  Use diesel, OP.

If this site used to have a chicken coop, you may have a big den of snakes.
Most snakes like to eat eggs and chicks.

My grandpa from Oklahoma said that back in the day when they encountered a nest of rattlesnakes, they would set loose a bunch of hogs on the nest.  He said the hogs would go after them with a vengeance, rooting them out and gobbling them up, and didn't appear to give a darn about being bit.

Get a tarp or roll plastic & tarp over the area. Lay some posts or dirt to cover the edges of the tarp. Borrow a bottle of CO2 from a welder buddy, or beverage supply, home brew guy, or get a decent size CO2 extinguisher. Feed the C02 under the tarp. The next day go get your nice collection of snake skins. They take all of two minutes to skin out. Impress your family & friends with gifts of rattlesnake wallets, hatbands, belts etc.

ETA. Don't fuck with gasoline, really just don't unless you have a death wish.
