Quoted: I'm ordering a cheapo "brew your own gallon of beer" kit. View Quote this is a hoot. started with a winemaking kit, then went to mead, then beer. even though i don't drink much beer, it's by far the most fun to make as long as you're doing the mash instead of just doing malt extract. extract is a great way to learn the process, but the fun starts when you start picking up barley. at the moment, i have a malbec and a dry mead aging, but have drunk all the beer i made last month. time to start a new brew. my other hand hobbies are swordsmanship (obviously) and lockpicking. based on stuff you've posted over the years, i think picking might appeal to you. it's physical reasoning, if that makes any sense. |

I have a built forged/stroked/blown 2011 Challenger which has about $65k in it. I could probably get $25k selling it. That engine setup would be nice in something light and not boatish... |

Primitive weapons.
Although they're kinda the opposite of practical and useful. |

A lot of stuff you can make yourself, Al flake from old bev cans in a garage sale blender, Mg from old wheel rims, copper blue from septic weeder, dextrin from corn starch and such, but nothing will save you more than black. Just a two inch star shell takes nearly a half pound between the stars, bursting charge, the fast black initiator and a lifting charge, and that's one shell. |

Buy a welder and get good before you order that 5.
Which one are you lusting after? |

I'm using my Thumlers Tumbler right now in conjunction with the ol' 5 gallon TLUD. I do want a Rebel though. |

Get a nice set of razor sharp chisels and take up wood carving. That'll take care of the hands bit.

I like making stuff I already have better. Ichange or modify particular feature I deem less than optional or that have room to be improved, or that could have been done better. Stuff I can do on the couch whilst watching yet another Crimean or Second World or US Civil war symposium.

I don't know, just saying it needs to have a non-containment cover, even loosely. If it does, np.

The Rebel that Woody's sells is basically the same container with improvements, ie: bearings instead of bushings and a more powerful motor. The Thumler's really can't handle 35 lbs of medium very well. The Rebel also turns faster which is a great improvement. So far I have only used it to mill the charcoal. I screen mix my BP. Maybe Santa will read this.

You'll get more homogeneity milling your wet mix to near dryness.

Build a blown big block with multi port fuel injection and a crank indexed ignition system. Use O2 sensors
not for fucking emissions but for optimum performance at all pressure altitudes. Drop it in something and go nuts. If you want something to tinker with forever use Hilborn mechanical fuel injection. Polish all external aluminum parts to a mirror finish yourself. That should keep you busy awhile! |

Pick a item you think would be valuable in the future and build the equipment to make it. Make a person sized robot that works outdoors.

OP can you give us an idea of some of your interests? Music, hinting, fishing, sports, etc.....
Also how much room would you have available to facilitate this hobby such as spare bedroom, garage, workshop? |
|
Leatherwork..belts, magazine pouches, holsters, knife sheaths, blackjacks, sandals, shoes, quirts. You can weave leather, carve leather in addition to all the stuff just sewing it.
Whittling is another one...you could carve any number of different things. Or you could get into scrimshaw on bone, ivory, or whatever material you can locate. Baking..but the risk of learning how to bake all sorts of neat food things is that you could get fat. |

I've recently tried my hand at acrylic pour painting. I don't play any instruments, I'm not a hunter, don't know how to fish, used to play soccer. I'm fairly boring, which I'm trying to change. Tiny garage space and a dining room table. Going to build a 10x12 or 10x16 shed/workspace in the early spring. |

Quoted: Uh, next level is as high a level as you want it to be. You can buy a knife grinder and make stock removal knives. You can get into forging and make pattern welded steel. You can make folders from scratch from blase or exotic materials, slip joints, liner locks, frame locks, button locks, lock backs, etc. You can try to do all of those things or pick the ones that provide the most enjoyment to you. Knife making is an infinitely scalable hobby. View Quote Yep Taught myself in highschool now I use it to make some extra money for my BRD. |

Knifemaking. Make sure your medical insurance is up to date and keep a blowout and IFAK kit handy, enjoy your stitches, staples, stained fingers, abrasions, and burns.
I see you are in Florida, drop in and I'll show you the ropes. |

How about smoking delicious meats?! And none of these pellet grills or the like... old fashioned offset stick burners. Cut and split your own wood. Make food that makes YOU happy... and then you can share with others and make them happy too

View Quote If you can find room now in your garage or wait til your shed is done you could go with some smaller woodworking projects. I would recommend a small wood lathe for turning assorted pieces such as pens and stuff or a scroll saw. Both of these are smaller fun projects that you can sell or just give to friends and family. It is also something you can get your S/O involved with you as well. My wife is big into crafting and is always coming up with things for us to make with a scroll saw especially around Christmas time. One other idea I have been tossing around is getting into kydex molding for holsters, sheaths, and what not. |

Build a Timberwolf G17 when the frames come back in stock.
Reload. Buy brass pick up from a local shooting range. |
|
Build a few fishing rods. Carve plugs, tie jigs and flies, make spoons.
All that can be done with almost no investment in tools to start, and you can make every fancy tool needed. I want to carve a few plugs from left over polyurethane brick molding, the stuff carves beautifully. If you like to read, learn Greek so you can read the untranslated books of the Bible. |
