Yeah, I drink bourbon once in awhile. It's ok. Yes, I have tried many of the expensive brands. They all taste too oaky for me. I prefer Romanian tzuika (aka plum brandy), but it's not well known in the States and I have not found a source to buy it. Slivovitz is pretty good and I can find that at BevMo. I knew nothing regarding American moonshine, other than it was some apparent hack job distillation created by one tooth renegades. But, man, I really like this particular brand which is bottled with some cherries. I goes down like honey and I'm about to get a hydrometer as it doesn't initially taste like 50%ABV - although it does after 10 minutes Because someone will undoubtedly come along to say what I am drinking is not real American moonshine like their grandfather distilled, I am open to suggestions. I'd like to try other varieties as well - |

Not sure of brand but I had some apple flavored a few months ago and it was awesome. |

meh get some everclear and make your own.
moonshine is just corn whisky. |

If you ever make it to north western OR, there is a local distillery that makes the bee plum brandy I have ever had.
|
|
That's a good brand. I like the Apple Pie variety the best.
Last year in July I walked out to my dock in Florida with a bottle I had just pulled out of the freezer. And I was only wearing a set of Levi's, a Stetson, an AR (slung), and a CZ P-07 9mm on a Serpa.. Cuz Murica!! It was so damn hot that day I that ended up drinking the whole (frosty) bottle in about a half-hour. Then, my neighbors all got a good laugh while they watched me try to crawl back into the house while dragging an AR behind me by the sling. That's drunk! |

Apple cider 3 cups sugar (2 white/1 brown) 4 cinnamon sticks simmer 20 minutes. Let it cool completely Add 500 ml Everclear. Put it in quart jars and pass around at your next party. Love watching people getting pie faced. |

Have you tried St. Elmos Fire? I really like it!

Try Wild Turkey "American Honey". Probably the best I have tried.

IMHO, 500 ml still leaves it tasting like apple pie and not Acetone. It's still pretty palatable with a fifth but a whole litre?!? "Watch the bodies hit the floor!" |

I'd try it.
Now you need a lid with a pour spout made in it. |

To get an accurate reading you will need both a refractometer and a hydrometer. Or you can do spirit by indication with just a hydrometer. Take a hydrometer reading, boil off half the volume of the sample, then top up to original volume with distilled water. Plug the results into this formula SI = (SG2 – SG1)*1000 %ABV = (0.008032927443 * SI^2) + (0.6398537044 * SI) – 0.001184667159 |

Marketers have really done a good job with the "moonshine" they distribute. Put in a flavor so that people don't get a busted head or popped skull taste. Sell it in a fruit jar so slicker-boys feel like they're right out there in the woods.
Real moonshine doesn't taste very good. It's really for one purpose, to get drunker than Cooter Brown. |

I've had (and still have) some real moonshine. It bites harder than this stuff.
I've bought a couple jars of Firefly Apple Pie, and it isn't bad at all. It's not real moonshine, but it isn't bad either. LC |

I used to know a guy that made shine with damsons. That stuff was nearly tasteless and burned all the way down. It was some of the cleanest liquor that I've ever had.

It doesn't taste like much. Cheap vodka. True corn mash moonshine has a wonderful corn flavor as long as it isn't proofed too high or low. 100-110 is about the sweet spot for me. It is GOOD. |

My buddies wife loves the stuff. We had the blackberry one the other night as a poker party, those black berries where loaded.

Had apple cinnamon on Friday and sour apple Saturday. Sunday was a little rough.

What is being marketed as "moonshine" is merely unaged corn whiskey with some adjuncts added in for flavoring. Real moonshine is made from illegal stills in hollers by people without teeth.
