[ARCHIVED THREAD] - I found out today I have cancer. Finally some good news! Update 10/27/16 (Page 10 of 17)
| I know you will, but send your family off as best you can with the time you have. You have the opportunity to live on in your son, and you will want to do everything you can to help him live and love life. Lastly, if you have to go, I hope you leave with dignity and only after giving this cancer a helluva fight. I lost an uncle to pancreatic cancer last year; you'll be in my/our thoughts. |

Billions/trillions of dollars spent on welfare parasites and useless bullshit but we still battle this horrid disease.
War on poverty, war on drugs? Fuck that. If I was in charge there would be an all out war on cancer. No holds barred. We rallyed as a nation and won WWII and put a man on the moon less then 20 years later. There is no excuse for not being able to rid humanity of this scourge. It took my 2 of my 4 grandparents before their time when I was a kid and last year it took my mother. I have no words for you OP other then I am truly sorry. |

Prayers said for you, for your healing. Pancreatic cancer took my father 3 years ago so I am familiar with it - its a bitch.
If you can still fight see if you can get into a clinical trial or hit it hard with Folfirinox. Some interesting stuff is now being done with genetic tumor typing, if they saved any tissue from the surgery see if you can get it into the "know your tumor" program. And there is an active message board for pancreatic on www.cancerforums.net, they were a godsend when my dad was sick. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your familly. |

Very, very sad to hear this brother. Prayers outbound. Have you considered doing some videos for your son for important milestones, e.g. birthdays, high school graduation, etc.? Nuggets of encouragement and wisdom along the way, though you're not actually there and certainly won't replace you, could be a really big deal for him through the years. The Lord grant you peace and strength as you traverse this valley. this. And more of this! Write some letters as well. Videos are great. Take pictures and tell him stories. Hard to type through the tears.... |

I will keep you and your families in my prayers Eric.
Have you contacted Memorial Sloan by any chance? My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer over 12 years ago. The doctor said it was inoperable. She contacted Sloan and they treated her. Her latest bout, two years ago, they decided to try immuno therapy. Thus far she is still doing ok. Still ups and downs though. New York Times Article about immunotherapy |

lots of prayers for you and your family op
Make videos for your boy. For him to be able to hear you say happy birthday would be awesome for him. My mother died when I was 5 and I would give anything to be able to hear her voice, I can't remember what she sounded like. |

Really sorry to hear about your prognosis. Keep fighting for every day you can get. We fought this with my mother for 20 years (Thymus Cancer) before it finally took her in 2015.
I would recommend getting birthday cards/graduation cards and cards for any major life event you can think of that they will encounter like getting married or having their own children. Write your thoughts and memories in them and steer them from afar. "To be opened when you are..." I imagine these would be incredibly difficult to write - but may be one of the most cherished things they have of you. |
