Typically have a glass or two of bourbon, scotch or Irish whiskey on the back porch but tonight I opened a bottle of Appleton 12 year and hot damn it’s good. Maybe it’s the soupy tropical weather but it’s a tasty drink.
That is all. |

My FIL loves cheap rum.
I have bought him some middle of the price range. |

IDK know what Appleton is but unless its a dark spiced Rum its gross.
Can't stand that clear stuff. |

This be it. Got it as a gift for Christmas. Probably going to end up buying another bottle.

For Florida availability it’s either Brugal or Flor de Cana. For special sipping’ it’s Mermaid 100 proof with a touch of water.

The woman bought a bottle of Malibu awhile back. Not even full rum. But I’ll be damned. Mixed with pineapple juice I’ll temporarily hand my man card over because that might be the most refreshing alcoholic drink I’ve ever had.

We just had a rum thread, and it was even in the appropriate subforum. Enjoy!

Rum is incredible. It is the last hard liquor group that has not undergone a trend renaissance driving up prices and hurting availability. For comparison, you can get rum that rivals $200 bottle bourbon in quality that is still $30 bottle.

I picked up a couple bottles of a rum from Hawaii from Costco last year that I liked a lot. Of course they no longer carry it and I can’t remember what it was called.

The top end of the Brugal line is better than it has any right to be at it's price.

I don't claim to be a rum expert, but I do keep Kraken in my bar for people who have the palate of 12 year olds, and some some Bumbo for those not as bad and who love the taste of banana. However, my poison of choice is Cruzan single barrel.
Because Rum is almost entirely unregulated and undefined, it's not exactly one type of flavor. It's effectively like buying pre-mixed drinks in many cases. |

It has been years since I had Pampero Aniversario, not available here, but it was delicious.
Others I've enjoyed over the years are Ron Anejo Aniversario, Rhum Barbancourt 21, Matusalem Gran Reserva and Diplomatico Mantuano. Few of these are available locally but when I'm in Nashville Total Wines has an amazing selection. Frugal MacDoogal has a more limited selection. The only use I found for Pepsi was mixing with Bacardi limon. The Pepsi sweetness works great with the lemon flavored rum. Brings back fun memories of youth Buying a 2l of Pepsi, dump almost half out and pour a 750 in.
I will say a good spiced rum is excellent, though I rarely drink anything these days. |

Four Square, Plantation, Diplomatico, and Ruhm Agricole FTW. So many many great rums out there.
I wish I could get a bottle of the Appleton 17 they released this year. |

I’m really digging Plantation rum right now. The classic dark is good, the 5 Year is fantastic. I can’t wait to try the Overproof.
Sailor Jerry, I can’t have around the house. If I’m near it, I start drinking it from the bottle and I don’t stop. Only alcohol that had that effect on me. Kilo Kai is delicious and reminds me of my youth. Siesta Key is an excellent rum that I tried in Florida. Their spiced rum makes a phenomenal rum and Coke, their coconut rum tastes like a Mounds bar. Flor De Cana is acceptable but doesn’t mix well. Decent for sipping if you pay for the higher versions. I’ll post a bounty for Shellback Spiced Rum. If you can get me a bottle of it, I’ll pay you twice what you paid for it. |

I freaking love rum...like I love the smell, the taste, the look, everything about it. If I could wear it as cologne I would. If I could drink it 24.7 I would.
3 things I love in life. Boats Big Asses Rum |

I’m partial to Ron zacapa 23 myself. I can put back wayyyy to much in any one sitting. Price has risen a bit in the last couple of years but it drinks like a good bourbon that would be significantly more expensive.
