There's no denying sportsball is dying. Nobody wants to watch 400 lb linemen in tights and pads slam ineffectively into each other like some kind of nerf clad sumos. Or overpaid 8 foot tall thugs loaf up and down a court halfheartedly dribbling a ball.
What the sportsball industry needs is a complete paradigm shift. The heaviest NFL team currently fields players averaging 249 lb. 11 players x 249 lb = 2,739 lb. We use that figure to set our rule. And that new rule is, a team can field no more than 2,739 lbs of players at a time, in any combination. And their total roster must be limited to enough weight to field 2.5 11-man squads, or 6,847 lb. So, a team could field 11 guys at 249 lb, if they are conventional thinkers and lack imagination. But the team fielding 19, 140 lb players with a good running game would literally run circles around them. Oh yeah, to spice things up protective gear is limited to the weight of the heaviest player. It can be apportioned in any way the coach sees fit. Now, I know what you're saying: "but TNC, how's this going to help individual sports like track and field?" Well, I have a plan. Those sports will adopt an NHRA model with classes based on modifications: Stock: in Stock class you have to run what you brung. No PED's, no steroids, just good ol' fashioned hard work Pro stock: Pro stock can run limited amounts of PED's Top fuel: This is the unlimited class, whatever you can pump into the athlete goes. Here we'll see athletes absolutely optimized to run 100 m, many of them will be destroyed by a single race |
|
So, basically, NASCAR?
How do you feel about putting gravel in their shoes so they can't run as fast? |

If sportsball is dying, when do total salaries paid to athletes start to decline? Don't think that's happened yet.
|
|
It's not the athleticism that's making people not watch. Sportsball people need to shut their fucking mouths about anything not related to the game they play.
Anyone making millions of dollars to pay a game has no place to talk about the inequities or unfairness of "the system". |

Easier solution is to stop using government money for stadiums.

Quoted: If sportsball is dying, when do total salaries paid to athletes start to decline? Don't think that's happened yet. View Quote That's a good idea. We'll have a salary cap of, say, $100k per team. The coaches can divide it however, by weight, height, or some unknown formula. But we would encourage off season exhibition games where the salary is paid out in $20's, scattered onto a sportsball arena and the team is set loose to grab as much as they can. A yearly payday, make it or break it. |
|
Have the winners kill and eat the losers.
People will tune in exponentially. |
|
Better yet, we'll have a salary cap for the whole league. The money will be apportioned to teams based on their end of season rankings, that'll motivate 'em to play hard

There is a problem with your theory. With the exception of baseball the other sports are more popular than they have ever been.

Or, maybe, just maybe.... stick just to playing ball and keep ALL politics out of it? Do what you want in your private life, but while you are in uniform, you don't have any political opinions. No taking a knee, no "alternate" national anthems, no pins, flags, or statements of support. Nothing but ball play.
Or is that too crazy? |

Soccer can be easily fixed with a random exploding ball. After x rotations the ball explodes. So now when that player wants to take a dive with a injury you know he is not faking it .

View Quote Just enough of a charge to take off a limb. Let's see, what's a soccer player weigh? 100 lb? And there's what, a dozen? Whatever. Let's say a soccer team can field 1200 lbs of player, with a total squad weight cap of 3000 lb. So, as the season goes on we'll have guys losing legs. I guess arms don't really matter since they aren't allowed to touch the ball. So the B-league teams will get populated with the unlucky ones from the A-league. In B-league we'll set a limit on the total number of legs on field at any time. You can have 24 legs. Now, that might be 12 guys with 2 legs or 24 guys with one leg, or any combination you can come up with. |

Until recently I attended a number of college baseball games including the college world series. I enjoy it. The school I watch most of the games has won a number of national championships and the players at most get a 1/2 scholarship. Some walk ons.
Their former coach that won a number of them became the AD for a while. He often would say "you see the football team doing this and that, I see the entire athletic department budget going up and down the field". My doctor held the SEC conference record for home runs in a season for 20 years. Not all players are destined to be a felon. |

OMG that suggests a whole new venue: horse racing. We'll have the same NHRA-style horse classes. Top fuel will be the biggest, gnarliest horses raised on steroids and pumped full of meth just before the race. |

Naw, I think it's good. About 4 years ago I wondered a bit.
About 75% of my friends were done with it. Today..100% are back like nothing happened. |

I've taken a knee on all sportsball since the Colin Kaepernick asshole. I was never a huge fan before, but I haven't watched a single game since. |

It's really simple. Take ALL the "game checks" no matter the sport and put them in a basket ,,,winner take all!! Game by game the cash would be up for grabs.

lol college and pro sports are doing better than ever. Horrible take. Now college football does need to do something about the transfer portal and NIL.

Wokeness is the A1 reason why sports have gone down the shitter. In second place: athletes have been groomed and pampered, they're almost all prissy fans these days. In a distant third: more commercials than game time. |

More people watching than ever before OP. The draft crowd was massive.
It's entertainment. When I see "sportsball" in GD, you know it'll be a dogpile of overweight, unathletic men, looking to pat each other on the back for being such rebels. |

I'd watch this

They had like 500,000 show up to the draft lol.
