Quoted: With Denver deciding that cage free eggs will be mandated in Colorado, and all else made illegal, I expect those prices to keep rising. What a load of marketing shit. If I put chickens in my garden, they'll eat the garden won't they? View Quote Yes, but ducks probably won’t. Ducks are more reliable layers through the winter too. Only problem is, they are incredibly messy and stinky. |

I'm hoping I can accidentally get some broody hens to start raising our own chicks this spring
|
|
I mean, the little fuckers are feral in Hawaii...
... how hard can this be? |
|
I'm probably gonna talk to the neighbors and see if anyone else wants to violate the rules and raise chickens with me.
If everyone is in on it, no one will tell on me. |

I mean, $20 for a dozen eggs might bring them around.
Let's hope they aren't some weird vegan shit cult member |

I'm already thinking of violating the rules with hens. Roosters are banned outright due to noise. Fuck a duck. Hens it is! My Orpington hens are really quiet, but they’re also broody heifers. Probably sex links are your best bet if they’re just for eggs. |

You don't really want broody hens unless you're trying to hatch your own chicks
|
|
They need to be out eating bugs and shit, not laying on the nest

Gotcha. So a broody heifer is a big fat lazy bitch that doesn't pull her own weight around the garden. She's just good for making babies.
A lot of people are broody heifers. |

Rhode Island Reds are reliable layers, but also very broody with eggs. Ameracaunas lay the pastel colored eggs, not so broody. They're normally the first ones out of the coop in the morning.

One little whore of a buff orpington got me just right in the webbing between fingers, twice on the same collection attempt
Only reason I didn't wring her little neck is she was also a daily layer. |
|
They have nice little chicken coops to keep them out of the weather and half the time the little dumb asses jump up on the coop roof and weather out the storm on top

I wasn't implying you were Lubing out, but telling you how simple the chicken mind can be

When looking at my Siberian tiger skull, I noticed the brain case is about the size of a baseball. It's a huge skull from a 600 pound cat with a baseball sized brain. Cats, generally, are pretty smart too.
I look at every creature differently now. |

This is great.
Things I need to worry about when raising chickens: 1. Dumb and/or shitty neighbors 2. Dumb chickens 3. Hawks eating dumb chickens 4. Getting bit by broody heifers Things I don't need to worry about: 1. Keeping them warm. |

A 140k lb roll was delivered today
That’s 50k more than the previous place could handle |
|
Also, depending on Colorado's definition of free range and cage free, you could do what I've done and have a semi-mobile setup made of a few dog runs with the coop inside on wheels. Cover the enclosure with bird netting, and suddenly hawks aren't as much of a problem.
